Think of the enjoyment you've had playing your PSX and PS2 games. Think about the times you took and zombies head off with you magnum on Resident Evil, think about the time you finished first on Gran Turismo 3 and unlocked that car you really wanted. None of this would have been possible without X. If you haven’t worked it out by now i'm talking about the X located on your controller.

Though out the past few years i've played on the PSX and just after Christmas i got a PS2. I've been putting in many hours after work or when i'm just bored, playing on my PS2. Until my X button started playing up on my controller. At first i was very annoyed as it was effecting my driving on GT3 and i wasn't getting good enough acceleration and deceleration out on my car. Then i thought about all the times i had played on the PS2, the X button is easily the most used button on the controller. Think about it. On all of the driving games the X is the one that controls the speed of the car, on Onimusha and many other "survival horrors" the X button allows you to slice and dice your enemies, with FPS the X allows you blast away your enemies and on RPGs the X button makes all of your selections for you, allow you to interact with people, selects, combines and changes objects and allows you to attack your enemies with deadly blades or powerful magical attacks. None of the above would be possible without the X button. Easily the most used button on the PS/PS2 controller.

So next time you turn on your console and pick up you controller, take a few minutes to appreciate the X button and the enjoyment and flexibility it allows you with so many games ranging across so many genres. Think about the assault you are about to give it as your console finally loads up the disc you have just put in.....X, i salute you, for all of the good times you have given me in the past, in the present and certainly in the future!

Well now you mention it, if your really that bothered, you could change the configuration of the controller so that you don't have to use the X button that much, but then you might have a problem!

Bizarrely, Jap games are set up with the O button as the defauly, cos they prefer it that way.
