These are what I'd say are the best of their type on PSX:

Platformer: Spyro 3 - Year of the Dragon
Racing: Crash Team Racing
RPG: Digimon World 2003/Final Fantasy VIII
Shoot 'em Up: Quake 2
God/Reality Sim: Populous - The Beginning

Sitting infront of a computer screen doesn't help.

Platformer: didn't play to many but medievil was good
Racing: never played racing games on PSX
RPG: Breath of fire 3/ final fanatsy 7
Shoot 'em Up: Quake 2
God/Reality Sim: dont really know any
