Have you noticed that the PS2 gets a hard time by some members of the gaming press? Now, maybe it's not your remit to comment on other magazines and the like, but I'd like to know why they are so aggressive towards the machine. For example, have you read the pages of the Channel 4 teletext magazine Digitiser? They've had knives out for the PS2 since before launch and seem to take pleasure in dismissing the PS2 at every oppertunity. Now, is this really because the PS2 is a bad machine with a lot of mediocre games, or are they just talking, well... lies?

A couple of things. The PS2 is not a bad machine and I think anyone who's played GT3, Onimusha, Star Wars: Starfighter, Crazy Taxi, Quake III or any number of other games will know why. As for Digitiser? The page (480, fact fans) is an independant one and run by regular OPS2 contributor, Paul Rose (aka Mr. Biffo). Here be his reply: "Digitiser was a strong advocate of the original PlayStation, and the PlayStation 2 prior to launch, so I'd disagree that we've been any more antagonistic towards Sony than we have any other machine or company. If we have then, well, let's say we occasionally enjoy using our independant status to play devil's advocate. Or, in other words, the biggest targets are the easiest to hit." Which is why we just love our Biffo.
The N64 deserved it's slating.
It was released with over priced games and a lack of games too.
At the same time, they did recognise that games like Mario, Goldneye and Zelda were the best around.
They turned down requests from readers to rate Final Fantasy 7 over Mario 64 (and quite rightly too) after they claimed FF7 was better because it came on 3 disks instead of a cartrige.
They also got an earfull from angry Nintendo fans after they gave Zelda 96% instead of 100% (LOL!!)
One year they were accused of being heavily biased against Sega and paid by Sony.
The nest year they got yelled at for slating the PS2 and got accused of being a Sega advertisement!
Digitiser always end up being right.
The amount of times they've said "Told you so!!"...
But anyway I dont wanna turn this into a console war topic.
I know a lot of Digitiser is a load of Bollards, but anyway.
Digitiser slate* everyone. (*SR, is there a reason why we can't use the phrase "Sl*g off"?)
The PS2 got it more because Sony hyped it more, made a few more mess ups than everyone else and hasn't quite got the kicking it deserved.
If you read it then you'd find that they like a lot of PS2 games, they simply think that the real future of gaming is elsewhere.
They might not be right, but they haven't been wrong before...
