For the gaming industry 2001 is the greatest year ever! Also known as the year of the consoles in most countries this year will or has introduced the Gamecube the Gameboy Advanced and Microsoft’s giant (in more ways than one) X-box!

November 5th will be the date of the Gamecube in America and the 8th is the X-boxes date! In less than a moth those lucky Japanese will be playing on Nintendo’s new super console the Gamecube and the Gameboy Advances better titles are starting to appear.

But what about us? (Don’t sing Michael Jackson)

The World is enjoying the greatest year of gaming but us, the poor deprived souls living in the UK is suffering quite the opposite indeed one of the worst year of gaming. Why? Well we have no Gamecube we’ll have to wait till the first quarter of 2002 to see that and may until the X-box manages to fit into our living rooms.

Last year we had an excellent gaming year, Nintendo fans enjoyed Perfect Dark mid-year and with a Christmas stocking filled with the sequel of the greatest game ever Zelda, The World is not enough and No Mercy the N64 lovers had an awesome year! Playstation fans got the Playstation 2 and Smackdown 2 (enough said) and the Dreamcast titles were coming in thick and fast including Shenmue! It was a great year for gaming then we got this year…

The good things of the year included the arrival of the Gameboy Advance, the N64’s awesome start to the year and the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver. The bad things though far out way the good points. The Dreamcast gave in which was probably the biggest disaster, the N64 despite it’s good start will finish on an all time low with a few titles left to be released and what will Nintendo fans enjoy this Christmas?

That’s why we look to the future, 2002 will be the year we wanted this year, 2 super consoles and with some excellent looking titles will fill up the majority of next year and so we all hope that we will leave the failure of the year 2001 and join up with our friends all over the world in playing the greatest games in the world in the year 2002.

Here’s to the future

some developers are saying they can push the Gamecube to 20M polygons per second. and the microsoft figure is only a raw estimate. it could never do that in a proper game with all the lighting effects and stuff. dont believe a word of microsoft.
