Poor. The only way NiGHTS! can possibly describe the past year of the forum. In fact, maybe worse than poor. Not being allowed to swear, NiGHTS! has decided to create a new word to describe the year. Naffilitious. This year was naffilitious.

Why the pesimism? Well, let's investigate the last year. It began at a time of huge prosperity in the FOG. Every member would contribute mesningful topics on all ranges of gaming. Never would copied reviews win prizes- onmly well thought out, well written pieces on gaming. Nothing more. The FOG was inhabitted by gamers alone, of which NiGHTS! former alias, SonicRav, was one.

Then shock hit the forum. We had physically run out of topics to talk about. Except for one exception. DC and PS2 were coming. So began console wars topics that have never started. In NiGHTS! 531 days on the site only this topic has been around so long. Only this topic has become so old. People judging consoles they have not played, being biased towards firm based on past experiences, or even worse, the firms' dealing outside the realm of gaming. Absurd. Very absurd.

However, that was not the FOG's downfall. The downfall was the exodus of gamers joining the FOG. Hundreds of biased, uninformed gamers flocked to the site. In the past this had not mattered. A few people would join at a time and learn the intricacies of the FOG. No more. Now they set the rules. Which included biased against opposing consoles, not reading up on gaming issues before talking about them, and, the worst offender, not talking about gaming.

Even setting up other forums on life, the universe, everything did not stop them. The Future of Gaming was used for all topics from the publishing of exam results to the beginning of the universe. Today, there is only one notable topic on the chat forum about actual gaming.

Of couse, NiGHTS! is not ithout his faults. Just last night he posted a string of messages on the notable election. One said "vote NiGHTS!", another, "Vote Sonic" and another "Vote Aladin Sane". All former NiGHTS! aliases.

Fact is, that the notable/regular system has been a disaster. What good has come from it? Every 3 months another notable must be elected. But the fact is that eventually these notables will become un-notable as they post less and less. In this election there are no real candidates that stand out at all. What is the point? In its early life, the system just made newbies spam to become regulars. Then there was abuse of JATs and Newbies by the regulars, and vice-versa. Now JATs aren't listened too, and no one cares about whether you are a regular or not.

Naffilitious is this years word. Let's just hope that that all improves by this Christmas.

That's a great idea that, having some sort of newspaper about FOG. maybe it should be weekily, and tell stories about FOG members and behind the scenes going ons - like an expansion of the already popular [email protected], but with more chat forums content.

I do think that Notables are listened to more that regulars or newbies. Whenever A comment is made by a notable everyone is like "Oh a notable said I have to"
Don't get me wrong I don't dislike Notables hell no, Ant is a close friend along with SHEEPY and er-no not far behind. I think that if someone is been called a notable its like they have special powers. If something is said is MUST be right. It is a good idea but it makes them more special than the rest of us and I don't think that was supposed too happen.

FOG since I have been here has been overrun by silly topics. The worst case I have seen so far was this WABBIT crud. I couldn't believe it when my browser loaded up, 15 (ish) topics about WABBITS! Outrageous. FOG has its good days and its bad. Sometimes it is a lively as a dead snail and others it’s like being in spaghetti junction. Maybe some new ideas would help, I know competitions have been done but I can't really see any improvements.

One person has to come up with an idea so good it get him/her 2 GAD'S Whoa 2. Here is mine.

Maybe a SR newspaper. With GAD/FAD winners list, new game demo's, prices, etc etc. Like their magazine but featured more around the net side of things. I only joined the forums for one reason really, free Games. I have not yet forfilled my quest to get a free game but I have found out that winning
free games aren’t everything. I love these forums now, I am nearly a daily visitor on the site and I have made some really good friends, Its like being in a chat room but not. I love the humour around the site and it has improved my English terribly. I was once like this “Sup gazzy in da houce, wutz up. Yall fellin g00d 2day”
Yes I know.

I don’t think myself that FOG is dying but it does need a cracking idea to liven it up.

On the contrary, I think that with these big releases, the forum will go incredibly quiet.

SR won't mind though, their sales will be rocketing through the roof!

Well, with the release of MGS2 very soon, and the releases of the GC and X-Box, it'll hopefully improve next year.

Not really. But there's only so much you can talk about.

All this console wars business is just something to pass the time until we have something to play, and if we're lucky, win some new games to play on this machine.

As for the Notable/Regular thing.
It's been said so many times.
All it is is some of the more dedicated, witty and famous writers on this forum getting highlighted.
In the eyes of experienced goers, the already stood out.

No, I feel the same. Gaming is boring. The DC had a range of original games, but nothing totally groundbreaking. The PS2 has the same problem. Maybe I'm going off gaming?
