Thought last year was amazing? Can't wait to see what is in store for us this year?

Well round about nothing new will be appearing... at least not until Christmas... from Nintendo... I should imagine. Nintendo and their fantastic army of 2nd party monsters will be working as hard as possible in creating some of THE best titles for upcoming system codenamed: N5.

Nintendo cunningly declared a delay in a large selection of their first and second party titles last year, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a game Dennis Dyack, head of Silicon Knights, swore would be ready for Christmast, was pushed back. Could Mr. Dyack really be a liar? Far from it, in fact the game was ready to ship by the end of the year but Nintendo opted to leave it for the Easter market.

Miyamoto has barley mentioned his baby sequel, the frankly fantastic Pikmin 2, the reason? He's finished it, it's done and dusted. The reason for it's spring delay is basically to fill up time. After contacting third parties Nintendo would have been aware that the first half of 2004 would be deserted. Japanese mega hit Harvest Moon would appear as would EA's James Bond title... but that is a poor show.

In order to fill up European and American release schedules games such as Pikmin 2, Donkey Konga, Mario Golf (European), Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Kirby's Air Ride and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes were delayed to help make 2004 a fantastic year. Naturally third party smashes with Harvest Moon, Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Code Veronica, Everything or Nothing and Sonic Heroes will make this apparent lack hardly noticable (despite their being 3 AAA titles amongst the big list).

But it is the latter of 2004 that shows the most interesting results. Here we have first party Metroid Prime 2 for America and Europe being the big Christmas game whilst the Japanese have Zelda Wind Waker 2 (although never count out Mario). Other first party titles are in fact small GBA-GC connection games such as the special Zelda pack. Expect Mario Tennis and Mario Party 6 to appear to. It is up to the third parties to help the second half of 2004 for Nintendo to look good... can they do it?

Easily.

Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4 from Capcom is a great start, Starfox 2 from Namco will continue the great trend, other titles from Konami will start appearing, Geist will hopefully show up (unless they're scared away by X-boxes big guns Halo 2, Half Life 2 and Doom 3 this year) and not to mention the Pokemon games (expect Colleseium to kick a$$). And they're just the exclusive third party games don't forget some undeniable Ubi-soft classics... maybe XIII 2.

Naturally that is to far away to predict brilliantly. The BIG thing for Nintendo this year will be that product they are hyping up, could this really save the big N from an ever loosening hold?

What will we see at E3, and if it isn't the next generation of Nintendo consoles is there going to be a Spaceworld this year?

What you mean the same GB printer and GB Camera that made a lot of money?

How about this idea... the Gameboy?

Was that a silly idea too?

What about Game and Watch? You're right how ridiculous.

Do you remember the silly Gameboy transfer pak for the N64 that caused sales to rise 120%.... totally lame.

Nintendo's hardware has failed... and succeeded in the most spectacular of fashion.

I never said they would make it a success, I said I'd trust them to do it better, and quite possibly make it brilliant. Obviously, it could fail, and with Nintendo there is always a risk that it just does not take off.

Like Edgy said, why the hell would they make you watch two screens at once anyway? I don't know the ins and outs, and neither do you, so all I'm saying is that I trust Nintendo to do this brilliantly. That trust might be misplaced (the Virtual Boy did suck, but does the Gameboy? The GB peripherals are hardly new consoles either are they?!) but based on what Nintendo have given me (i.e the best games ever), I trust them.

Like the Virtual Boy? Or the Gameboy printer? Gameboy camera? Shall I continue?

I said right down this thread ages ago that this announcement would be another stupid product and I was right. You're telling me that after decades of making games for one screen that anyone but Nintendo will make games for two screens when only one format supports it? You're daft if you think that answer is yes.

It is not even like any of Nintendo's stuff is suited to it? How do you make a better platform game (bearing in mind that Sunshine was hardly brilliant) better by having two screens which, coincidentally, I think most people will have trouble focusing on simultaneously. The idea is little different to using the GBA screen when it is linked up to the GC and that idea has barely been used by anyone other than Nintendo and then hardly to earth shattering effect.

Let's just wait and see.

I'd trust Nintendo over MS and Sony any day to pull something like that off.

Hmm, so Nintendo's big new hardware is yet another crappy handheld? *collapses laughing*

See, I said it would be some stupid thing.

Not happy having annoyed original GBA owners by releasing the SP, Nintendo now release this to annoy both lots of owners.

The twin screens has "failure" written all over them - last twin screen thing was the Virtual Boy....which medical reports later found induced tremendous headaches in most players, not to mention that whoever decided on red tint needed shooting.

Seriously, I bet the gang at Sony R+D working on the PSP are breaking open the bubbly tonight because they have nothing to fear from this.

And they said that about the Gamecube.

Nintendo have 2 markets, Nintendo die hard fans and Children...

Nintendo need to be very careful not to annoy these... Children sales dropped when Resident Evil became an Cube Exclusive and you know how we all opposed the short but sweet catagory in an attempt to attract a wider audience.

Yes, they shouldn't lose their younger audience, but they really need to target a wider market. Advertising is something severely lacking, while looking at the Nintendo America advert shows that they can certainly make a great advert when they want to, Europe have got crap like "Wooohoo!"; making for something that's embarrasing to watch.

Why not bring out a few new Player's Choice titles like Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil, if they're given enough publicity, then surely Nintendo would reap the rewards.

It's the same with the N5. If, on launch (and leading up to release), they hype titles like Metroid Prime 2, Too Human and (perhaps) a new Resi, as well as the usual happy-go-lucky titles Nintendo are famous for, it could be the Nintendo winner they've wanted for so many years. Reverting back to the same style of the N64 may help then; hardcore games for hardcore gamers, with a little twist on advertising to open up the market a little.

Oh, and they'd better publisize Resi 4 and Killer 7. The original Resident Evil advert was genius, and if they can come up with something similar, they're surely make a little more than usual.

Or, alternatively, just don't advertise in any way, get into a bit of trouble, give the N5 a price drop, get sales up then watch them drop again. The Nintendo way!

But really, the N5 could be a pivitol point in Nintendo's future; sealing their fate, perhaps.

Most Children have these people called Parents...

And Nintendo games are £20 - £30 in most shops with the console at its cheapest.

Children is Nintendo's market, Nintendo should not lose it.

Targeting children is stupid; it only gives Nintendo a 'kiddy' image and also kids can't usually afford £40 games on a regular basis. Unless the are the fat, rich variety of kid found in coventry etc.
