Before I start, I would like to say that I know this is going to cause major uproar with the RPG enthusiasts but I'm going to wrtie it anyway, you never know it might get some posts going again.

First of all I would like to point out the most important good point about RPG'S. They are long. That is probably the only thig that goes in RPG's favour. The are very involving, and you can tell that a great deal of effort has gone into the plot of the game so that it takes a great deal of time to be completed by us, the gamers. That's is it as far as good point, now onto why I dont like them.

Firstly, They are unrealistic. You are ment to get completely emmersed in the character, share their emotions etc, but as far as I know, nobody had magical powers and can conjour up spells. Yet these spells are quite often the mainstay of the game itself. If they are going to include magic, I dont think that it should be the major part of the game, because it makes it lose some of it's realism. I know that there is a huge other argument about realism vs fun, but I cant get inside the head of someone who is using secret incantations and mixing potions together.

Next I will address the bad side of the length. Many people have short attention span, that is why in films, one camera angle is not kept for longer than 10 seconds, usually. You dont see action films showing a fight scene from one side, and that side only, they chop and change the direction the camera is facing, to keep us interested. Now if a game has 70+ hours of gaming inside it, how do they intend to keep up hooked for that entire 70 hours. In my opinion they cant I have tried to play one of the Final fantasys I think it was 7, but I seemed to be playing for hours and getting nowhere. I dont like a game where I have to wait ages to get to no-where. I think that 40 hours of game play should be max, or have everlasting games like the sims, and most management games. I dont like the idea of playing for 2 years, and not finishing a game. It seems pointless, a waste of time.

Next how repetative the games are. In my opinion If you have played one, you have played them all. This is also my view of FPS's aswell. I really hate Zelda. I have played both the SNES and (first) 64 version, and it seems all you do is go around pressing that button, to swing your sword, then press it agan and again and again. As each ememy comes to you, you just swing your sword and they die. Then you have to talk to a person. They tell you nothing of interest. You talk to another person, neither do they. Then you talk to another person and they say if you bring me something from the other side of this world, I'll talk to you, so you set off on your journey, and guess what. To get this thing, generally a stone, book or potion, you have got to kill lots more guards. Where's the fun in that? It's so repetative. It's the same with FPS's, You use your gun, click on that mutated creature, it dies, then the next one, then the next one. Where's the fun? It's just the same thing repeated over 20+ levels and THAT'S IT!

That's my major gripe with them, you just seem to do the same thing hour after hour after hour, and it gets more and more boring. There's no tactics involved, all you have to do is just look at a map find where you are going next, and kill a load of creatures on the way, with some stupid magic potion or with a sword.

Another thing, there is no originality, it's just a different story, with some things having a name change.
sorry but I dont like RPG's they just dont work for me, I know alot of you love them, but I just see them as an everlasting, boring, repetative, waste of £30!

This is from the same cooldogs who said of Microsoft Train Simulator:

"I for one will be one of the first to buy this game because I think that it will be a great addition to my collection."

Agree 100%.

Can't stand elves, wizards and mysterious tree people of Ngarkus or whatever the hell it is this time.

I bought Final Fantasy 7 because my mate said it was cool.
It wasn't. I spent 30 minutes talking to midgets, then had a fight with a big scorpion.
Except we all took turns in attacking, the scorpion kindly waited for me to select whatever gimpy spell I had collected from dusty old fart in the tavern.

Bunch of @rse.

Spend 3 days building up stats and...oooo..go online to meet up with other RPG players and spend an age asking if they have seen the goblin with the key?

No thanks, take the advice of PC Gamer and go into one of these online RPG..scary, scary people in there.

Wander up to any character and say "Do you want a fight?" or "I'll be your slave for some gear".
