"A while ago Namco announced that they had no plans to release either Tales fo Symphonia or Baten Kaitos in Europe. They believed that the sales that were predicted for these two titles would be worth it. In the natural way of the internet a petition was made and people signed. [I signed it too! -tphi]
However, unlike most internet petitions, it was acknowledged. Namco have announced that the highly anticipated RPGs Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos will be coming to Europe after all.
Speaking exclusively to Cube-Europe a Namco representative said:
'I am pleased to let you know that both of these titles will be released on the GameCube for Europe. However, this will not take place until the end of this year/beginning of next year due to the lengthy translation process.'"
God damn, this is great news, both of these RPGS looks suuuperb and have had great reviews. If there's one genre the Cube lacks in, it's RPGs, and here are two brilliant ones, confirmed (and exclusive I presume). Top news.
Now Nintendo have to follow suit and bring out Giftpia.. pullease..
But Goldeneye 2 would not hurt Nintendo's line-up
I dont think that it will replace an original game in Nintendo's plans for the N5.
Nintendo has enough money to support the developers, so that they can develop both sequels and original games.
To create Goldeneye 2 will help them in many ways.
They do need to get a good FPS for the launch of the N5 to get rid of the childish image they have created.
And as Dringo said, it will sell millions, at least here in the west.
The fans of the first goldeneye will probably buy it as well as new ones.
Having listened to Dringo and others bang on about how Nintendo will salvage itself with new and revolutionary games it seems entirely contradictory that you then herald Golden Eye 2 as something which will bring success. You lot are always on about Nintendo doing its own thing and having its own ideas and that this is what keeps you loyal to them.
Read what I said, I didn't say it would not possibly be a good game, I said it does not tally with what Nintendo officials have been saying in magazines like NOM and Edge. In the latest NOM Shigsy is on about Nintendo making games for the future which no one has conceived the idea of, that could revolutionise videogaming. Golden Eye 2 isn't that. Ultimately it's a James Bond licence, or if you want to be cynical, Timesplitters 2 with different character models and a licence and a graphical update.
That every game made for the next generation of consoles HAVE to be original... 100% original...
And that Nintendo CANNOT release a game that will single handidly rescue their plight in Europe?
You are saying a re-make of one of the worlds most re-known FPS' is not what the public want?
Let me establish the concept of Goldeneye 2...
It'll be fantastic
It'll make millions
I want it
Millions of others want it
It'll shift consoles.
But nope... can't have it... not original.

I would hardly think it could be dross - coming from the same development studio and having several years in production.
There's every chance it won't be as good as its predecessors, but then there's every chance that it will. It's bigger, longer and less linear, with much more scope - and the graphics look to increase an already seedy and dark atmosphere that was great in the first.
Fingers crossed.

Heh. Something we agree on.

It's (possibly) Goldeneye 2?!!!!!!
Who cares if it's not revolutionary enough!
For a successful launch outside of Japan I think Nintendo will need some really unique games to stand a chance with N5 - something to tempt people who own PS2 and Xbox and not just Gamecube owners. Xbox has the Halo games by then along with Half Life 2, PS2 will have at least Cold Winer and Killzone.
FPS = not revolutionary.
> Yeah, woohoo etc. We've got FPS games overflowing across every format
> known to man with little seperating them now.
And you don't think that Goldeneye 2, if it ever exists, will be rather separate from the usual FPS dross that "overflows across every format", if it's as good (or, dare I say it, *better*) than the original.
And anyway, multi-format FPS aren't all bad. TimeSplitters 2, par example.
