The future of gaming!!! Or at least 5 possible outcomes!

Scenario 1. The Gamecube

The Gamecube is released and quickly become one of the fastest selling consoles. Nintendo make millions and the PS2 loses almost all of its sales. The Xbox is released and sells but not very well. Bill Gates loses millions. Sony and Microsoft then compete for second place as Nintendo have conquered the market. Sales of the GBA continue but drop off after the Gamecube is released. Many game developers more to making games for Nintendo. Sega mere with Nintendo, creating a huge division dedicated to creating games.

Scenario 2. The Xbox

The Xbox is launched and sell like wildfire. It rapidly exceeds the Gamecube in sales. It sell best in the USA. Within a few years Bill Gates makes billions through sales and advertising campaigns. Nintendo carry on steadily whilst the PS2 is gradually forgotten. After a few years Xbox sales slow down a bit but not before Bill Gates has once again become the richest man in the world.

Scenario 3. The PS2

Both the gamecube and Xbox flop. They sell very little whilst PS2 sale double with the drop in price. Any games manufactures change sides and make games for the PS2. Sony gradually take over the console market. Nintendo take second place whilst Microsoft pull out due to massive losses. Sony continue to rival Nintendo but after about 3 years the PS2 sales slow down with the imminent arrival of the next generation of Nintendo and Playstation consoles.

Scenario 4. The GBA and GC

The GBA sells very well and continues to do so. No one can rival it. Microsoft attempt it but lose a lot from trying. The GBA completely rules the handheld console market.

Scenario 5. A new player

A new console manufacturer emerges in the next 4 years. They produce an awesome console that outsells all its competitors. They make millions and become a household name. They continue to produce great machines for the next decade whilst people gradually forget about things like the “Dreamcast” or the “GameCube” or even the “Xbox” which people joke about as being the brick that sank Microsoft.

Personally I prefer scenario 1 but that because I am a Nintendo fan. What do you think the Future of gaming will be like?

I hope that no company dominates and competition will grow forever. It would be better for gaming that companies rage war forever!
