Operation Flashpoint despite being one amazing game it also has a very handy feature that I think will revolutionise the gaming industry. It has FADE. What is FADE you ask? It's a technology that Codemasters (behind the game) have incorporated in Operation Flashpoint to stop video gaming piracy! How it works nobody has the foggiest idea except those clever people at Codemasters. Unlike other anti-pirate software which is incorporated in games to stop it from being copied (ie. cd keys and anti-copiable cds) this game can allegedly NOT be hacked unlike other games where videogame pirates have found ways to get around the problem and copy copy copy...

FADE basically is said to "decompose" the game until it's no longer playable disabling key aspects of the game within time AND it only does this if the game is detected to not be the original version. Clever stuff.. So how do they do it? No one but Codemasters knows yet but lets hope eventually all companies will adopt a similar technology and destroy computer game piracy and finally we will have an end to the destruction of the computer game market which is badly harmed by piracy year after year... Lets hope this software really isn't beatable by the pirates like Codemasters claim.. Only the future will tell this. If the software succeeds though we can easily say this is the future of gaming and the ending of piracy.. It's a hard world to imagine...

Thats a good idea from codemasters.

My idea to stop Pitate's!

Somehow, when the disk is read if it is a pirate disk the disk would have a small explosive inside. I’m talking so small it wouldn’t matter if it exploded in your eye. Back to the main thing. When the disk was read the cd-rom would pick up this little thing and then it would start its self destruction, it would be a small fire and would take days before you noticed. But by then your whole computer would have burnt to the ground, including your house as well probably.

That would be a harsh but good way to stop piracy.

That would be fun to watch - I don't know about you lot, but most of (OK, all of them) pirate games by copying them via CD Writing, and therefore are real barstewards for doing it, and laughing at me when I buy a legit copy of a PC game. It wouuld be great to see the police knocking on their doors one day and getting to see them arrested. But of course, that won't happen, because one of my pirate friends has a copper for a dad.

What I don't get is why they don't make a piracy program that uses the internet to locate pirate copies. With enough advertising I think people will be scared to use them in case they are traced and dealt with.

Yeh they did it before in Premier Manager I believe. No problems yet but who cares as long as it gives the piraters a tough time. Even if it's a short term solution it is a start..

Also, how long does it actually take to start the erasing process, if it were to take over 6 months or so, then you would probably still get piracy, because you could still play the game for half a year.

I hope that the program/technology doesnt break down otherwise they're gonna end up with a load of angry customers who cant play their games because they self destructed!

Just think of the problems that will happen if the software doesn't work!

I hope that it owrks though

There are also huge debates over that stories legitimacy. They said the same thing about one of their Football Management titles.

The thing all devco's know is that if it is on a CD there will ALWAYS be a way to copy it, just takes the pirates a little time. This one was clever as a) it requires no coding (in that it it's a story) and b) scares gamers away from buying the priate title.
