It's being held in Edmonton, it's been on for a week-and how many hours have I seen of live coverage?? About 4.
Okay, so it's no one's fault there's a big time difference between Canada and England, but the 200m final being on at 4:40 in the morning?!
I get the feeling British TV (or whoever does this sort of thing,) should have pushed and pushed for better times. The BBC team have tried very hard, and they are doing very well, but with it all being on from 1am to 5am-I can't watch very much of it at all.
And also-the crowd at Edmonton is very disappointing. I look back at Seville and the olympics in Syndey, and wonder why it was held in Canada. I mean-Canada's not exactly the biggest olympic force in the world, so interest will be low.
I mean, the USA are used to watching it at that sort of time-and I expect they have quite a lot of power in what times the events are run.
Europeans expect to be able to watch it in the daytime, though. With lots of athletes from UK, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Holland, Russia and more-surely we should have the advantage of being able to watch it at a decent time, rather than the Canadians.
But there are some good points. The coverage that we've seen has been very good, and the athletes have performed extremely well. We've had highlights such as Marion Jones losing her huge winning streak and only getting the silver, there have been superb finals in the long and triple jump, and last night's pole-vault final was superb as well.
Michael Johnson has been an invaluable asset to the BBC team. His words of wisdom are amazing, and even the likes of Sally Gunnell and Roger Black are lefy hanging on his every word.
Rather than most, he seems to be rather arrogant (which he can be,) and he uses constructive criticism rather than just complimenting athletes all the time.
He also made me laugh when he said 200m runner Mothersill's tecnhique was, "terrible."
So overall, the championships have been okay. The competition has been excellent, as has the BBC's coverage, but the times are a big disappointment-as is the highlights show in the early evening.
Thanks for reading, Ant.
