I know very little about Adnvanced Wars and how the Zelda GBA games play so any information would be appreciated.
Cheers!
On the GBA front, you may want to invest in Harvest Moon, too, if you're getting the Cube version. I think they crossover so you can visit each other's towns, making for a much bigger game. You may want to look into it, though, because I could be wrong.

Subtle. ;)

Zelda is great, also; while I haven't played the GBA update, the original is one of my favourite 2D games ever, perhaps a little better in retrospect but stunning nonetheless. If you've played Link's Awakening, you'll know what to expect, only add a truly epic feel, maybe double the length and some brilliant weapons and you're just about there. If you haven't played the original, again, a must.
Advance Wars is a mark of genius, pick the first one up for a tenner, then if you really, really enjoy it, maybe the second would be a good purchase. I hated strategy games until AW came along, it eases you into the genre beautifully with simplistic battles, but still just as satisfying as the larger bouts. As you progress new aspects open up (fog of war, new battle techniques, new vehicles) and turns into a harcore strategy game. I'm still awaiting more news about GameCube Wars, but things are sparse after the big downhill from online.
Also, Fusion is a must if you liked the original Metroid games or, for that matter, like side-scrollers. It's a very tense game and one of the few on the GBA that will have you sweat, everytime you come across the SA-X, actually. Some of the bosses are brilliant, and will most likely take a lot of effort to destroy, in good old fashioned Metroid style, there are a few screen-fillers to sink your teeth into.
A few budget games I'd highly recommend are the two Doom games, which can be picked up for about a tenner, Banjo Kazooie, while short is still a superb isometrical adventure and BackTrack, another FPS, but it's a little different to the ones you're most likely to have played.
Obviously, the Mario Advance series is worth a look if you missed out on the originals (apart from maybe Mario Bros. 2) and if you like your RPGs, Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2 are sure to please you, along with Final Fantasy Tactics if you like a little stretgy edge to your RPGs.
Upcoming games include a remake of the original Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission, SabreWulf (which is looking sublime, I must say), FireEmblem (an RPG update of Advance Wars, you could say) and Sword of Mana (which, while got bad reviews, will surely please fans.
All in all, you're going to need a fair bit of cash :-D Oh, and if you find Zelda or Mario Bros. 3 on the cheap, you know who to tell ;-)
