As the Jordan Racing team was announcing its signing of Jean Alesi for the remaining five races of the 2001 season earlier today, the Prost Formula One team was making an announcement of its own. Prost have signed fired Jordan driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen to replace Alesi for the rest of the year in what has turned out to basically be a straight swap.
Prost's team boss Alain Prost said in a statement that he was very excited about Frentzen joining the team and that the German will be making his debut with them at the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 19. He added that he was hoping that Frentzen's past experience with some of Formula One's top teams would be an asset to Prost and help them to achieve their future goals.
Prost said: "I am delighted to welcome Heinz-Harald to our team, His achievements in Formula One in the last few years place him amongst the best and his experience with the top F1 teams will be a strong asset for us in the remainder of the season. His arrival allows us to prepare for the future with confidence. It is essential to preserve our team's serenity - that is why I chose to release Jean.
Frentzen, who will be teaming up with Luciano Burti, said he was delighted to be returning to F1 after missing his home grand prix at Hockenheim two weeks ago following his firing by Jordan. So far this season he has scored six world championship points, and is aiming to add a few more to his total during the last five races of the season with Prost.
Frentzen said: I am happy that I have the chance to drive for Prost in the last five races of the season. It would have been very difficult to turn down this opportunity and I am looking forward to supporting the team for the rest of the season."

To be honest, I can't see the point in Frentzen going to Prost. Let's face it, they're crap.
Good move for Jean though, lets hope he gets a couple of good results before the season is out, he deserves it.
He might do what some people do and change Championship's, he could get a good drive in Indy Car. Frentzen is still a good driver but I think he is unlikely to get a place in F1.
He might get a second chance with a team like Riccardo Zonta did when he got a drive with Jordan due to Frentzen's short injury, and if Frentzen wants it bad enough, he'll drive the car well and fight for the seat.
I think if he can't get a good drive next year, he may retire. But where's he going to go?
Mclaren have yet to announce, but I doubt he'll go there. Ferrari are sorted, as are Williams. Sauber have got their drivers for next year, he won't go back to Jordan.
Who does that leave? Benetton are keeping JB and GF, Minardi, well, I doubt he'd go there.Thet leaves Jaguar, a possibility but hardly a front running team.
This leaves Arrows. I don't know if they've signed for next year yet, but again, they're hardly regular top 10 people are they?
This leaves Honda.
Frentzen is fading away. His career is starting to take a fall and it is only a matter of time before he packs it in.
Frentzen can bring them some experience, but he can;t make the car go any faster than it's designed to.
I think they need a whole new design team. They've got last years Ferrari engines, so have Sauber, look how well Sauber have done this year.
There's no competition.
Despite Jean Alesi and the Prost team mutually dissolving the Frenchman's contract with the team in order for him to be free to the Benson and Hedges Jordan team, as was announced yesterday, Prost's team boss Alain Prost has expressed his disappointment about the 37- year-old leaving the team, as well as publicly criticising the team. In recent weeks reports in the media suggested that Alesi was unhappy with the team, their equipment and their lack of professionalism, and it was also reported that Prost had not been paying Alesi for his services due to financial difficulties.
However yesterday Alesi was released from his contract with the team, and immediately signed with Jordan, for whom he will drive for the remaining five grand prix's of the season. Prost, who has hired Heinz- Harald Frentzen as Alesi's replacement, has expressed his disappointment at the loss of Alesi and stated that it was not his choice that the Frenchman leave the team. Three weeks prior to Alesi's departure they had in fact been discussing a new contract for next season according to Prost.
Prost said: It wasn't our choice that Jean should leave. In fact, three weeks ago we were even talking about a new contract. A driver should honour his contract and it is not right that he should air his problems in public.
So far this season Alesi has been the only one of the two Prost drivers, the other being Luciano Burti, to have scored points. He did so in Monaco, Canada and in his final race for the team in Germany.

So it looks like Prost won't be getting any money from Jordan.
Now all EJ has to do is pay Harry Heinz off....
Prost are up a creek without a paddle. Or a boat.
Prost hadn't paid Jean all season, thats how he could walk out!
Frentznes in the crap, he has to get a decent drive for next season, and all the top spots are already taken.
Jean has come out top in all this, he may be able to get some points by the end of the season, and I hope he does!
A good bit of business for Prost.
