"Why people leave?"

I dont know if you have noticed but i have not been around much recently, i have been flooring the loft, although this has left me with a dilemma, iam begginning to feel more detached from the forums.

I used to visit everyday for around 2hrs, in this time i would usually post a good few messages, i will be lucky if i have visited for 2 hrs this week and posted about 5! Im beggining to feel like i dont belong here anymore, as if iam no longer part of the community.

I think this is why people tend to leave the forums, if you do not visit regularly, you begin to start feeling left out. And if you feel left out, you dont really want to keep coming back.

I have tried to post every time i have visited this week, so that i dont feel detached and like i want to leave, i did consider leaving....but i like it here too much, you can't get rid of me yet, and hello to everyone.

This is true, i was serching for other videogame chatforums on Yahoo, there were around 2 or 3 which were OK, but there were around 60 which were totally empty, the only post there was from the webmaster, when he started it up.

People come and goe cookie monster, but there is a core of gamers here, and others, that stay for many reasons, not necessarily because they 'fit in', but because there's stuff here for them to talk about, it doesn't matter who's doing the talking.

When I'm posting, I try to look at the words, not at the name of the person writing them, because that way you keep an open mind on topics and not get bogged down in your own preconceived ideas of who is writing it.

Examples here are with Dan2K1's posts, I sometimes dread opening those ones just in case they take 5 minutes to load and a day to read and digest.

Then there's Meka Dragon, even with the titles you might suddenly get ambushed by one of his 'stealth songs'.

So now I try to avoid looking at names and taglines until at least I've read the opening topic of a discussion, that way I read all posts fairly and try to answer impartially.

I may be in the minority here thinking that it's happening, but one thing I dislike is when a newbie posts something, doesn't matter what it is, but then gets pounced on by everyone else for starting a 'console wars' topic or pounced on for 'we've seen it all before' topics.

Newbies aren't to blame for that as they have no real way of knowing all that has gone before, but it's a surefire way of making them feel outsiders from the start, so if I see a newbie topic I bear that in mind when responding to it.

As for leaving you can't. If you like games you'll find that this site is one of the best out there for finding information and opinions. And if you can't find them here at least you can always ask a question and get a quick response.

Oh no, now I've done it. I'd better get out of here while I can.

Now I feel no one knows me anymore.....

Only difference is no one knew me before I went!
