We don't really need fancy peripherals, we managed in the 16-Bit days of old, and although technology is moving forward, the periherals nowadays are stupid.
Fishing Reels: Used for 2 games at most... and not very good ones at that.
Driving Wheels: Not brilliant and to flimsy
Glove: Virtua Snowball Fight anyone?
All we need nowadays is a decent console that sports good games from the majority of developers that can accommodate 4 players and on-line play.
The DC wasn't there because of lack of support, the N64 was the same with the additional deficit (set-back) or no-online play.
The PS2 isn't THAT bad but more ports are needed and if they don't get on-line soon they'll mess everything up!
Peripherals aren't nearly as effective as we think. There wasn't a 'spinner' for Mario Party to protect our palms and a Tennis Racket for Mario Tennis to make the game more than a bright colour palette. There was not Body Suit for Shenmue so you could have a good excuse to practise air-karate!
Peripherals aren't a bad thing, but they're way overated... control-pads, as long as their well structured with a good layout, can meet the demands of all genres in my book.
Where the peripheral companies fall short a good controller can make up, but it doens't work the other way around, no decent controller?... sorry mate, you're screwed!
