I was trying to play Sega Gt2002 (there is a time for everything, and I hate to admit it, but I do rather like it), and it went 'brrrrrrr..click, brrrr...click, whir, whir, schnurgen..' etc
My drive is beginning to sound distinclty miffed/unwell about something, and no it doesn't have those two little holes everyone asks, but to which I have not a clue what they're on about.
RAR!
Help.
As for me getting a Samsung drive, it was just chance. It was in the JSRF/Sega GT 2002 pack, which is strange as there were never any reported incidences of that, they were thought to all be Thompson drives.
Oh, and don't be ashamed to play Sega GT 2002, it was a class game.
At the end of a race, if I don't revert the music back to the rubbishy in-game stuff, it usually, not always, causes trouble.

yeah I thought of that, but surely it would also be skipping when the music is played through the xbox dashboard, wouldn't it? but it's flawless.

when you bought your xbox, did you specifically ask for a samsung drive, or did you get it by chance? or perhaps you've replaced it since?

They say it is good, but not as good as the Samsung. It may have changed now, but at one point the only errors ever reported with the Samsung drives were caused by bugs in Morrowind. I have a Samsung, and it is rock solid. Never had any problems of any sort with it.

See, this would be to do with the hard drive though because when playing PGR or GTA etc, you use the DVD drive for the game and the hard drive for your saved custom sound tracks.
I don't know which I have, but there are Seagate and Western Digital hard drives out there.

You lot all seem to have problems. Maybe they should put a warning on the packaging stating "This product is not to be used as a crash test dummy or an offensive weapon".
it's annoying, if I didn't know any better, I probably wouldn't be bothered, but as I've already enjoyed a whole year with skip-free tunes, it's noticable.
still, I'm just happy to have a working xbox, and am currently enjoying the two games : POP : sands of time, and Max Payne 2.
get yourself a copy of POP, it's a beast.
I didn't check what the drive was in my last xbox, although it is interesting to note :
on the old box I had, my custom soundtrack worked perfectly on all games, no stuttering, stopping or skipping.
VERY OCCASIONALLY when I'm playing on GTA3/Vice City or PGR2, with my custom soundtrack on, I get it stuttering, which is a tad annoying.
I think this has something to do with it being a different drive - it's also slightly noisier, but slightly faster to load (which would lead me to believe the last one was a thomson).
musings?

I imagine one of my technial minded friends could crack open the box and fiddle around with the drives.
I shall mosey on down.
And Albino-Man, yes a pirate topic would be far more interesting.
But no. :)
