It was £160 when I got it (with a wireless PCMCIA card included) but it has gone down in price quite a bit now. About £100 I think.

IMO, it's the best you can buy - totally stable, no problems at all. One note though - if you do get it, DON'T update the firmware - 1. it doesn't need it and 2. it will damage your router as some monkey at Netgear made a boo-boo making the firmware.

If you don't want wireless though, there's not really any point in going for the DG834G - there are much cheaper alternatives out there that don't do wireless.

Oh yeh, get the idea of infra red out of your head - you'll end up disappointed, embarrased or both.

If you go for wireless, you'll need a wireless bridge to allow your PS2 to 'see' the wireless network. The bridges can cost anything up to £80 alone.

If money isn't an issue, go for the Netgear DG834G Modem/router/switch. It has 4 ethernet ports on the unit (I have a PC, PS2 and Xbox connected to those) and 802.11g wireless built in (the best wireless available at the moment). I also have a laptop using the wireless and everything is handled perfectly by a website-style configuration screen. You don't need to install any software on your PC (not even the software that comes with the modem), just 'dial' into the router and you're off.

You can get other brands that have similar spec, but I've always stuck by Netgear for excellent products and support.

One last point, quite a few people have said that when running a console over a wireless connection, the connection terminates unexpectedly, thus ruining the game you're in. I don't know if this is for all wireless routers, but definitely with DG824 (the model before mine).

You think!

Ok and so how many wireless routers do you know that operate via infra red?
