Mario may not be in movies or cartoons like it used to but the fat plumber is still a very popular character. Mario Kart is the biggest selling N64 game if you want proof of this. Yet what is the future of Nintendo’s number one mascot?

Mario 64 was the last proper adventure for Mario, since then we have enjoyed countless, stunning spin offs. Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis etc… they are all great but what is left of the plumber? Is it just another wealth of sport and board games? Well in a few months we will be able to play Mario’s first proper adventure since Mario 64, Paper Mario. It may not be a platformer but it is still an RPG adventure.

Now lets skip ahead a bit further to the Gamecube. Nintendo released a list of Gamecube titles, which quickly disappeared. This list included Perfect Dark 0 but also contained three others, 100 Mario’s, Mario Sunshine and Marionette. Mystery? What are these games? Well Nintendo were asked about Mario Sunshine and they replied by saying “It’s a game which will make the player and Mario very happy”. Now that explained nothing but it is heavily rumored that Nintendo’s new 2nd party developers Camelot are developing this game.

These people are famous for Mario golf and Mario Tennis so does this mean Mario Sunshine could be a sports game? Well Camelot don’t just make sports games like Nintendo’s other 2nd party developer Leftfield they also make RPG’s. Golden sun the sweet looking GBA title is and RPG and way back in January Camelot declared they are developing a Gamecube RPG. Could Mario Sunshine be this RPG? Or is this Shigsy’s Super Mario 64 2, which he announced years ago, but we have heard nothing about since?

Well we hope to find more about that at Space world now how about Marionette. We have been told to think the name through. I instantly thought this is a game featuring Mario’s sister or female cousin or some other relation. Another brand new Mario character? Who knows but if it is true then Waluigi may not be in the spotlight for very long. But N64 magazine gave another spin on the name, Mario net. Now I didn’t think of that, maybe Sega isn’t the only one developing an Internet game for the Gamecube. Maybe Nintendo are keener on Internet gaming than we are lead to believe. If this is true then we may not see Marionette for sometime. Of course it could be Mario with a net but I somehow doubt it.

100 Mario’s has probably something to do with that Mario demo Shigsy showed at Space world last year so we should think of a puzzle game. If this is true then it might just be the demo bundled with the console or maybe Shigsy has developed an entire game out of the small demo.

Now If 100 Mario’s is a puzzle game, if Mario Sunshine is a RPG or Sports game and if Marionette is an online game then I ask where is Mario 64 2? About 2 years ago Shigsy said this is in development now we have come to believe this is a Gamecube game especially as Shigsy said “we might need to develop it for Nintendo’s next console”. So where is it? I sit in hope that maybe one day I might be able to play the first 3-D Mario platformer since Mario 64. But for the mean time I suppose I’ll have to cope with Luigi’s Mansion. Everything should be clearer at Space world.

What about it? It was a name that was leaked. A NAME. Check? Not a game name, a NAME.

Yeah - I reckon 100 Marios was just a tech demo too. Nintendo have never revealed a "propper" Mario game outside of their home country. Spaceworld 2000- belonged to the GBA, Spaceworld 2001 could be the stage for the next Mario platformer.

Personally I think that 100 Mario's was the demo for Pikmin, I reckon it was just Miyamoto messing around, seeing if he could get 100 things on screen without slowdown.

but that's just what I think...

Paper Mario recieved 90% from N64 magazine. It is apprently a little linear but is supposed to be huge and appeal to older gamers despite its cutsy look.

It is also supposed to be funny such as peach saying "what a huge wardrobe if only thigns init werent all the same" and someone else saying "i liked the times when we held partys and palyed golf".

I want it!

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
