"The article said Nintendo would still continue development of "a new home-use game machine for release in the future," but the earliest that machine would be released would be 2007."

So can anybody argue with that?
Very interesting. . .
Why do we want an N5?
I remember why I wanted a Gamecube.
Perfect Dark, Conker, all the other game at the end of the N64's lifetime, they all suffered slowdown and had hugely visible limitations.
How many limitations have we seen with the Gamecube?
Metroid Prime and Starfox Adventures presented the most beautiful visuals around without touching the framerate. Zelda, Mario and Metroid have given some of the slickest, most comfortable controls ever (Zelda and Mario only being let down by the lack of level design within the game).
The fact is, anything wrong with a modern game and it's the devellopers error, not the hardware's indequacy.
The big deal with the Xbox2 and PS3 is the new online standardisation which is something that Nintendo aren't really interested in either.
The new power will do everything bigger and better, but no REAL differences, just allowing slightly more extravagant scenes with more detailed characters WITHOUT having to spend ages making perfectly efficient code.
If anything, it'll just allow good quality games from middleware.
So there's no need for Nintendo to skip just yet.
There's still LOAD'S of life in the Gamecube, we're just waiting for devellopers to do something great with it (which some have done, and many more will do).
It's also a solid marketing plan because it lets Nintendo establish the Gamecube as THE budget console. The price will gradually drop so low that, with the huge backlist of classics on it, gamers will be VERY tempted to buy on alongside their PS3 or Xbox2, or perhaps buy one to help them through the wait for these two to be released (I know how tempting the Dreamcast was to me during that last year of GC waiting, and that was still costing 100 pounds!).
Once Nintendo has a Gamecube in everyone's home, people will gradually fall in love with their franchises, and when the N5 comes in, with a REAL difference in hardware, people will be dying to see what Nintendo have done to realise their franchises to the new level.
THAT is profitable advertising.
Tell me, how many of you were sold a game by TV?
And how many of you snubbed a TV advert only to fall in love with a game when you played it at friends house?
I know some of the best games I've ever played were the ones I discovered from friends. THAT'S what sells consoles. THAT'S the phenomenon GTA3 was. And THAT'S what Nintendo should be going for.
Bright sparks! ;-)
I think that Nintendo are trying to keep up with the corporates this time round though.
It's short for shitewash.
HAHAHAH!

Kinda answered you're own question there, don't you think?

Well to argue and tell you more: The article you're refering to is a pile of poo that says Ninty's next console (cleverly codenamed the N5 - "N" for Nintendo and "5" as it will be their fifth home console) won't be out until 2007. But that's crap as it's out about the same time as the other next-gen systems.
Now go away. That's tphi-ish for "go away".
