Ok i'm thinking of getting an American PSone for games like parasite eve, mega man X3+4 and the resident evil's with extra batte modes and that. Money is a big issue but is it better to buy an imported console or chip an english one.

please tell me about problems with the mains,tv types etc

Yeah that cartridge should only cost around £6.U can get a boot disc but it will set u back £15-£20.By the way the PS2 has got one of them cartridges.U have to plug it in the USB connection port.

i dont know about PSone but the original playstation had a bit on the back that was meant for future upgrades (back left). you can buy a cartridge that plugs into this port that has the same effect as a mod chip but elimintes the need for potential warrnaty damaging surgery. brilliant

you can still buy the old playstations brand new from amazon, but what else do i need?

Well if you buy an older PS1 you may find a slot at the back of it.Then you need to go to the local car boot and get a cartridge.It doesnt damage the console in any way.I wouldnt advise you buying a chip though..
