This post isn't groundbreakingly fantasticallistimo, but it should (hopefully) make a change from all the retarded posts filling up the PS2 forum right now.
Yes, my love for PS2 is continually declining. Why? How? Who? Well, it all started...
*cue ripply effect to show transition into flashback*
Wow! Xbox Live! *buys*
*cue another ripply transition back to current time, GMT of course*
That's it. Since discovering the wonderous magic of Xbox Live, I have played on my PS two a mammoth 1 time, to have a quick go on SOCOM.
Now, PS2 future hanging in the balance, I reflect on the good times. We've had classics aplenty on this vertical black box of tricks. We've experienced the next-gen greatness of classics like Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Grand Theft Auto 3, MGS2, Final Fantasy X etc. We've had not-so-classic yet still highly enjoyable games like Manhunt, Vice City, Tekken 4 and Prince of Persia (OK, that would probably count as a classic IMO). And we've had to tolerate literally hundreds of titles that would make you peel your own skin off and go for a swim in a vinegar lake. Yes, they were that bad.
Now what do we have to look forward to?
Gran Turismo 4? Meh, I've pre-ordered Prologue, but I doubt this is going to be a patch on Project Gotham 2.
Final Fantasy XI? Yeah, we're really going to see this in the UK before it's too late!
Splinter Cell 2? See Xbox.
Even Sony-sellers like Resident Evil have moved on to other consoles. RE:Outbreak? Sod that, RE4 is the real gem.
So what do we have? Well, There are now only two (maybe 3) games I am showing interest in on PS2 - Killzone and San Andreas. Not really much is it? And they're both a long way away.
This isn't a post on how you should all go and get an Xbox with Live, I'm just pointing out the fact that Sony don't really have any 'killer titles' on the horizon and that I am afraid I may be forced to offload my PS2. Again.
These days, anything worth buying for PS2 is available on Xbox or Gamecube. Splinter Cell 2, PoP, even Pro Evo is dabbling with Microsoft - there's another Sony Exclusive out the window.
So, what does the future hold for Sony's current generation of console? Be honest now, and think hard. I know a lot of you disagree with me but come on, can you really say that you are looking forward to Ratchet & Clank 3? Yet another Dancing Game? Yet another Jak ripoff?
Put your minds hard to work. Even the online aspect has sadly failed. There was so much potential yet Sony weren't as comitted as they claimed. Microsoft went on and on about how Live would kick ass. and it did. Microsoft did something right for a change. Nintendo said they weren't too bothered about online gaming. They have now proved they don't need it.
Now, looking at the time, ansd summarising on this post, I will stop now before I drag it out.
Bullett's Final Thought
What is left for the PS2? At least for us Europeans, can you see anything outstanding coming this way? We've already been denied the HDD along with FFXI, what else are they going to keep from us? Is it worth staying with Sony or should we all go elsewhere where the companies there have got it right?
What do you think?
DISCLAIMER - The HDD has NOT been denied, just that it seems to be taking forever to reach us. It's early, so sorry if this post doesn't make sense and I've just wasted 5 minutes of your life. I'll send you a replacement 5 minutes in the post :)
I'm quite dissapointed overall by the gamecube, the graphics it produces are fine but in terms of games that appeal to me it seems to be lacking.
If I had the money I'd get an Xbox too as it has quite a few games that I would like but at the moment I'm more than happy with the PC and PS2 games that are out or out within the year.
I can wait till the next gen consoles now and hope that I have a decent job by then ;0)
> Isn't EverQuest a Microsoft title?
No.
If so any sequel might be an Xbox exclusive.
Personally I've tried to enjoy gaming on the PlayStation series but I find it the poorest of the three as far as finding games I like and a control configuration which appeals.
My first love is definately FPS gaming and this is one the Xboxes key areas, along with a very good online setup.
My GC has also sat idle since christmas, I've played F-Zero GX once.
> Yes, but of the majority of online PS2 gamers who can't be bothered/
> can't afford to get Everquest?
They should get off their backsides, get a job, and then buy it.
My PS2 is used mainly on Mondays and Thursdays for PES3 sessions with a friend, and a very occasional blasst on GT3.
My XBOX hasn't been used for a month or two, since it started crashing with "dirty disc" errors in the final stages of NFS Underground. It's scratched the disc, too.
My Gamecube hasn't been used for so long now that I can't honestly remember the last time. About a month after Metroid Prime was released, whenever that was. I'm actually thinking about selling it because I could use the shelf it's on for extra DVD storage. I might wait for RE4, though.
I think PS2 is beginning to suffer because of the impending PS3 as much as anything else. I don't believe it's entirely down to the loss of exclusive titles, as most games are going multi-format now anyway, the only constant exception being Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft 'in-house' titles.
PSone saw a similar slow-down in the year or two before PS2 was released.
Most of my gaming recently has been on the PC, and that has been a rare progression on Call of Duty.
Apart from GT4, Killzone, Splinter Cell 2, Driv3r, RE4 and The Getaway 2, I couldn't tell you what games were coming out in the next 6 months on any console format!
For me personally, this time, I don't think it's a case of "there aren't any games I like coming out". I think I might, finally, be outgrowing gaming.
I used to battle through games, never giving up until I'd cracked them. Now I find that if I can't overcome something after 4 or 5 attempts, I lose interest and give up.

Gran Turismo 4 and Killzone. Whilst I'm waiting for them to come out I'm getting TIF 2004, Champions of Norrath, Knights of the Temple, Syphon Filter: Omega Strain and .Hack//Infection.
If anything decent comes out for the PS2 after these then I'll be pleasantly surprised but not overthrilled as I'm still playing EverQuest Online Adventures and waiting for EverQuest Frontiers to arrive.
Much as I'd love to have a crack at True Fantasy Live Online and Halo 2, I simply won't have time for them.

Final Fantasy is the only thing my PS2 is used for now too. My sis currently has it and plays FFX-2 on it. I still have a PSone and have FFVII and FFIX to get through and I'm after Origins, Anthology, 6 and 8.
I'll probably also get FFXI on PC since it will probably never come out over here.
Sell your PS2 and use the money to get loads of accessories/games for your Xbox and Gamecube.
