If it's true, and Nintendo are going to launch this, I feel it's too far into the Gamecubes lifespan. Way, way to late.
Dunno why they've told an obscure French magazine though.
I shouldn't think they could afford to make too many mistakes with the N5, and screwing up the online capabillities would be a howler.

Makes no sense to look at it that way, if Nintendo were going with MS then MS has online stuff sewn up console wise, they certainly don't need Nintendo's input.
More likely that this, if real, is a way to prolong the Gamecube's life (it WAS the last next gen console to be released by the way)...and who says this is too late? The Ps2 had been out since 2000 and only went online in 2003, yet the Cube has only been out since 2001, even Xbox only got online in 2003. We won't be seeing, unless one of the companies has a surprise at E3 this year, next next gen consoles in Europe until 2006 at the earliest.

er-no will be pleased :P
The only problem as such is that there is no software to support it as yet.
Mario Kart is adaptable in the form of the LAN thing but no other games support it so far.
Perhaps the next generation of Nintendo games will.
Metroid Prime 2, Pikmin 2, Windwaker 2...
I can't see anything as good as Conker Live though...

Well if it were true Nintendo would have to distribute the online play CD to make it all work, which would mean almost certainly a re-release of the broadband adaptor.
If this story does prove true...well it's very exciting and would certainly outperform Sony's dire online effort.
