i have 2 questions

1) my friend bought a 2.8ghz 800fsb 512cache p4 with hyperthreadding
he has 750mb of ddr ram
however his game plays worse than mine.

is there anything about this i should know (ie are celerons not as bad as people think)

2)

2.8ghz 800fsb 512cache p4 with hyperthreadding

It wouldn't make a difference if you mate had a 10gig CPU in his machine. With that (GeForce 4 and PCI to make matters worse!) video card in his computer, he would still see no improvements. In this instance the video card is the bottleneck - and a huge one at that.

You on the other hand have a top of the line video card in that 9800Pro, so ripping out your Celeron and replacing it with a P4 or something of the same speed will give you a big FPS improvement.

You should also point out to your mate that he really needs to replace his video card. There is no point having a kick butt CPU (or mobo or memory sub-system for that matter) if you are running a duff graphics card.

Bottleneck central. A PC is a system, and as such you need to think about all areas of the machine in order to gain high-end performance.

It should do, but if that is what card you have in your Celeron machine, it doesn't really have much to work with.

Slap it in a P4 or AMD 64 and it will work a dream.

i have a 128mb radeon 9800 pro

will that do, in ever game ive played with it the graphics settings have no effect on performance (i can ave 100x100 resolution aith all effects turned off or 2400x2000 with everythign including aa and af on full blast, it makes no diference)

I have an AGP4x GeForce 4Ti4600, 128mb of RAM. It sucks now. I get paid on Thursday. ATI 9800XT will be coming my way :D

If your friend is struggling with a P4 HT (like I am most times), it's most likely to do with his graphics card. Hell, I can't even run Counter-Strike Condition Zero at the moment.

Didn't you ask this processor question before?
