Offer Genres like strategy games started out from Dune which I have and I still play it a lot now even though I have Red Alert 2. Dune has led to a little more original games like Commandos. The 3rd person genre of games was spearheaded by games like Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider has been patched out there have been 4 games out and there all pretty much the same. The only thing different must be her bum and boobs.…lol.
Other games like the Final Fantasy series are also been padded out. The gameplay is all the same I feel. This game has gone through 10 incarnations and a Film. That is not very good.
Mario was the game that started platform games I think. Now that was released on the NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, Gameboy coulor and Gameboy advance. This is a bit like posting something up on gameaday.co.uk twice and winning with the same Review just at different times. As I bought Mario for the SNES and GBA *tut*.
What can be done?
Not much, Its hard to create a whole new genre. Something new is hard to think of. You could how ever mix genres. Like when you diced what to do as in a strategy game then watch it through a 1st player, this may of already happened but not in amazing detail.
A new Genre?
Online games which are entirely of online play as more and more people are getting free internet. Counter-strike peeks normally at 18’000 people on at once. What could be done is RPG games for the internet. I personally feel that the first game to offer completely free online play after the purchase of the game will dramatically increase the popularity of this type of game in the future.
One other thing I've noticed is that various games released recently seem to go for simplicity rather than complexity. Using the idea that simple games can be very addictive (which they can) many games seem to try and use this element in the game and I personally see this increasing in the future. Take Tetris for instance.
Conclusion!
I think that as games move on they will become more simple but be entertaining. Also there will be a mix of Genres and lots of online games. Do you agree leave a comment if you do.
