Here I go:
Did you see it? Rollcage...No? Well you must have missed it!
Did you see it? Banjo Tooie...No? You probably missed it!
Did you see it? Excitebike64...No? You must have missed it!
These are just a few outstanding games which in my opinion were overlooked for one reason or another, they should have been recognised but sadly they weren't, they deserved to to well but sadly in the UK they didn't!
Can you blame most gamers for going with what they know best and following the mainstream market? If a game is not selling well why should they buy it over one which is selling super with lots of promotion! Want an example? Well lets have a look at Simpsons Wrestling which was a proxy and plain crappy game, now compare the sales of Simpsons Wrestling to an amazing game like Excitebike64 which sold few copies... and I can start to see a pattarn developing.
Another? Well Crash Bandicoot3 sold very well in this country, it seemed to follow its predecessors and crowned the chart, what was there to compete with it? Well there was Rollcage, a game which had some promotion but sadly never picked itself of the mark and entered the top five! Which was the better game? Go and play both THEN answer that...
Sadly, it has always been around in the market! Overlooking is probably the worst thing that could happen to a released game (and company), its like having two games in quicksand, when the person arrives at the scene and s/he can only pick one, which one is s/he going to go for? A game which she saw on television yesterday? or a game which she has never heard of?
Sadly, its going to be the heavily promoted game and the overlooked game will (excuse the pun) get the sinking feeling!
What can we do? Well with all the money and promotion around at the moment we can do absolutely nothing.. but next time you are in a games shop and you see an obvious parent confused at what to choose.. go on.. give them a word of advice,
'..the kid may not like it at first, but they'll love it over this mainstream rubbish'
So then. Did you see it? Oh well...
Thanks
er-no
Take games such as Fantavision, superb and original games with lots of good ideas, completley looked over because the press decided to concentrate on Tekken Tag and Ridge racer 5.
Look on these forums and all the time u see posts saying that u shouldn't buy a playstation 2 because it doesn't have any good games, but the sad fact is that the publicity machine is simply bypassing most of the decent games such as Fantavision, Kuri Kuri Mix and Wetrix 2(aqua aqua?) for what are simply big name games.
I think you'll find that Excitebike 64 hasn't been reconised much is because even official nintendo magazine say that the n64 is officially dead. But then again ive noticed that the main underdogs, such as Dreamcast and N64 are having a second wind, as shops clear out there stock and games get ever cheaper.
Thanks for reading, i await responses.
> That is entirely Nintendo's fault.
No its not! Its the shops fault and THQ's fault!
I played Banjo and it was just too kiddy. Really.
I have neither the means nor the inclination to buy Excitebike.
Loads of games now-a-days go unnoticed. Excitebike is a big one. And another, that surprised me was Conker. It may have been the 'be all and end all' of FOG chat for a couple of weeks but it didn't sell mega well here or across the pool.
Maybe it is advertising... promotion and all the rest of it. But surely people will see the games in the shops. As we know it isn't graphics that 'make' a game... it's lots of things... maybe ad and promo is just a small part of it.
Maybe the retaillers and TV shows emphasise on the newer games like GT:3 and Red Faction to look cool and be up-to-date. I can see why. It's pointless going on about the N64... because even the strongest Ninty has to admit that although there were glory days, it's 'dead' but not altogether buried.
Gamecube previews on occasions are good but from a company point of view, pushing the latest platform and the latest chart-topping game is good for business.
No-one cares about the N64 top ten... it's either DC, PS2, Gamecube or X-Box... and maybe GBA.
But as far as missing games goes i've miss loads... and I thought to myself at the time my cousin doesn't usually ask to borrow my games wearing a mask and holding a gun to my head... oh well... Cest La Vie eh!?!
~ Game
The Simpsons... excellent. Everyone loves the Simpsons. Now, what if you combined that with wrestling! Wow! Multiplayer games where you can be your favourite character and beat the crap out of your mates! Great!
Banjo Tooie. Platformer on the N64. Ah, right ok... err... what's that? A sequel? But where was the first game? I haven't seen any adverts for it, strange.
Rollcage because I don't own a Playstation, and the 2 N64 games because lately, I've not had the money.
Both are labelled as "things to get" when the N64 is officially announced dead and I can get them for a fiver :-)
