From the US list I have seen the PS2 looks positivley interesting compared to the bland and repetitive European releases on the way this year.
Hitman: Contracts
Onimusha 3: Demon Siege
ESPN Major League Baseball
Future Tactics: The Uprising
La Pucelle: Tactics
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain
Transformers
Now here's what i'll be getting if all i had was a PAL PS2
Hitman: Contracts
Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfly
Quite a difference
And the lack of big ugly black borders at the top and bottom of the screen is always good

My thoughts exactly, i base my console buying decision on which one has the most turn based/strategy RPG's and first person shooters, which is the PS2. If i had to make do with the European releases i would be very disappointed. Also the Americans usually get the better box art, better version of the game like you said and everything just looks nicer and smoother and you don't have to wait a year or so for it to come out (if it does actually come out at all *cough Suikoden 3, Xenosaga cough*) in Europe
