How many people on this site actuall click the banners up the top?

Some of them look great, but I've never thought about clicking on one.

Do they actuall generate a high click rate?

This is an interesting one, actually.

The vast majority of people browsing a site will be interested in the content of that site, and so would also be interested in ads related to that content.

But on the other hand, if they've found what they want on that site they don't want to go elsewhere, so advertising a site which is very similar to the one the consumer is already on is somewhat pointless.

Another way of creating a more "user-specific environment" is to add a cookie to the browser's cache, which follows a user's movement and informs a site of their 'interests', Big Brother style.

Which would you prefer, having ads that are targetted to you but being followed by Big Brother (search your cookies for doubleclick.net/com. Be afraid..) or meaningless ads that don't interest you and therefore don't attract revenue for the sites displaying them?

Personally I find all advertisements an annoyance.

That's why I can't stand Opera (the browser.. and the music.. Long Live Galeon! I digress...).

I'd rather just do away with ads completely. But then.. many of our favourite sites would die. Would you rather pay-per-view (a sub-penny/cent cost that would accumulate as a bill) than have ads? What if this was an option, would you still pay?

Is there a nipple on the banner with the DOA2 bird on? I only click that to see if it makes it any clearer.

Thats true! Posters would be excellent.

You could do both games and films posters.

Ild say more chicks = more clicks. Although it may not mean more sales.

Saying that why dont special reserve sell posters, Im sure theres a big profit margin, and Im sure posters would sell well. :-)

- a good rate for most banners is normally between 0.5 and 1.5%. Its very hard to know what is going to make a good banner. For example many banners will get high clicks for a week then nothing after a certain time. The Lara cheats banner has been around 2% for months now which is wicked.
perhaps it's just because there is a half naked chick on it? :) who knows?
