Well for many of us PCs are our main games machines, yet to play the latest games we keep having to buy the latest graphics cards, and of course make sure our cpu's are up to the job. This has until now been acceptable to most, however some of us obviously can’t justify these seemingly increasing expenses for only minor improvements. Whereas before PCs became so mainstream PCs were seen as an investment because of the software applications they can run such as wordprocessors and web browsers, nowadays the PC cant offer us much more than what our old PCs already can and so the consoles are starting to rule the roost.
In spite of the slow down in desktop PC sales, sales of laptops are still increasing indicating that the public as a whole are now more interested in style and portability than how many MHz the processors in their machines are. The Playstation2 will soon get a harddrive and a modem allowing users to get online quickly without having to go through the hassle of getting their PC online. Plus the Playstation 2 is cheap enough so that one could be bought for every room in the house that has a TV in it. The Xbox from Microsoft will soon be on sale in the US, and will be here in March next year and Microsoft also dreams of people having more than one Xbox per household, at best one per TV set.
The Xbox will offer a cheap solution for people who want to play top quality games, and get online without having to shell out for new hardware every 6 months. Does this mean the end of PC gaming?? Possibly not after all the Xbox is basically a top end PC in a small box, so one would expect the PC to get games ported from the Xbox. After all whose going to spend £200 on a graphics card when for £300 you can get an Xbox that will have great games coming out for it for the next 5 years??
The Desktop PC and the Console world are about to merge, and the battle will heat up this November. Hopefully the victors in this will be us, the gaming public.
Hopefully the games can only get better as a result. : - )
In todays modern society time is important, as is convenience and ease of use, this is why the mobile phone is so popular. Most PC gamers would gladly use a console if it gave them graphics that are as good or better than their PCs. Nobody wants to have to load windows, configure their sound, and graphics cards and joypads if they dont have to go through that hassle.
The new consoles will be hassle free, the games will look great and they'll be easy to set up.
> Consoles and PC's becoming more a like. This has been done before.
*Cough* Ahem...
:-D
what Im trying to say is that todays PC already does most of what people want it to do in terms of wordprocessors etc.. and you have to splash out a load of money to upgrade a PC to play decent games.
Its probably cheaper to keep the PC you have now for wordprocessing etc.. and just buy a Playstation2, Xbox or GameCube for the latest games.
This means to put it simply that the end of PC gaming as we know it may soon be upon us.
Wheras in a PC, you get about 5 good games and a couple of crappy games on a standard PC! So you have to buy a really good, £1, 700 PC to play about ten good games and 5 standard games!! But the graphics are good, but because not every PC is the same like consoles, games are released to play on a really low spec computer, meaning that patches are always released and it can be really buggy!!
And I hope that by the end of this year things like that have improved in PC gaming, like Mx Payne games!!
Pick up any PC magazine and youll see that the PC is being held back by the lowest common denomenator. Ram speeds cant keep up with Cpu speeds and the improvement you get with a new system component in todays PC is minimal because of this.
The Xbox will be able to do nearly everything a top end PC can do because its cleverly designed.
The PC Desktop needs a complete overhaul before it offers people something new, that is worth the expense of upgrading.
Consoles maybe going online, but that is really to make the multiplayer games more...erm...multiplayer. OK, so with the PS2 you can go on most sites as well, but that was probably so PS2 owners can keep tabs on games being released nad that (or at least one of the reasons, anyway).
Consoles and PC's still have lots of differences, and it will remain like this for several years too come.
On the matter of Laptops, I am not surprised that they're sales are rising. Portable PC's. Sounds good to me. And, as with PC's, these will keep getting more powerful.
