If you already have a PS2 and want it to have the Java VM on it sony plan to set up a service to allow you to download it for free from the net. This means you'll need a modem and maybe a HDD.
im not sure if the GCN or the X-Box will have this option on them. But it must be good news to some PS2 owners.
For those who can program Java or are planning too this is good news, may see an increase in bedroom programmers. If anyone here has any good java programs then they could post them here.
The PS2 is actually a personal computer. Although it's not really, Sony classed it as that so they could dodge the tax that's (stupidly) put on games consoles.

The only way it will sell well is if it has a reason to be bought. If it is beneficial for you to have one then maybe it will do well. It will also have to be priced correctly. The price of memory for PC's changes all the time and is low at the moment. Hopefully the HDD will come down in price to reflect the cost of similar PC products.
But you don't HAVE to get

But you don't HAVE to get these, only if you want to get them. It's still going to be great even if you decide not to buy all this. You will probably find the same will happen with the other two consoles when they are released. They will bring out extra add-ons to help boost sales.
