Get the XT quite a bit more performance. People will say go with the Pro so you can overclock it etc, but the number of pipelines are different so this may not be able to be changed with software.

Anyway my PC

XP2800 Barton
1Gb DDR333(is DDR400 but running insync with CPU)
Abit NF7-S
128mb 9800 Pro
2x 120Gb Maxtor 7200rpm ATA133 8Mb cache
4x DVD writer
16x DVD ROM
Thermaltake Xaser 3 Black case
Enermax 460w PSU
Samsung 19" SyncMaster 957MB

Will probably overclock the CPU to 2.2Ghz, but need PC to finish Uni work and cant have it dieing if things go bad.

Also as I will finish Uni this year I am thinking of upgrading again, so will get Dual layer DVD writer, X800XT-PE and then either go for a P4 or a Athlon 64, and then keep this machine as a 2nd one. Or may get a laptop and keep this pretty much the same apart from the Dual layer DVD writer. Or even get a MSI barebone AMD system and have it linked to the TV in my room and networked to this PC, and then use bits from this one such as the 9800 Pro, CPU, RAM and hard disk and get a XP3200, more RAM, X800XT-PE and a 250Gb hard disk to replace on of the 120Gbs. So many decisions.

Yup. Sadly though, new AMD chips aren't unlocked anymore. Week 36 of 2003 was a bad week indeed...

Adrian, if you chip is unlocked why not just drop the multiplier and up the FSB to 200 MHz and run the RAM in sync with the CPU? I think I remember you saying something about having overclocked it a bit in the past, hence unlocked multiplier.

Yeah I have done. But I have final year Uni work and dont want the thing going wrong in the last few weeks. As soon as Uni finishes I will probably do 2.2Ghz(200x11) which I believe is the same as a XP3200. If my CPU messes up then I can get a XP3200 and a new mobo if that gets fried or something, but at the moment I need the PC so dont want to risk it.
