There has been a lot of "fav lyrics" and "fav bands" threads lately, which have made interesting reading. But what I want to know is this:
Why do you listen to music?
What is it that makes you want to listen to music?
For me, it's a lot of things.
I grew up with it being played constantly in my house, I learned to love The Beatles, The Doors, Led Zepplin, Captain Beefheart - I thought that was what everybody did.
But my sister doesn't listen to music.
I cannot get my head around that.
I can't remember the last time I watched television, but I know that I would be climbing the walls if I didn't have music.
It's a release for me. I constantly have tunes on, car in the morning on the way to work and on the way home, stereo goes on when I get in and Winamp rocking my PC whenever I'm on it.
Most of the time that I am awake and not at work, I am surrounded by music.
I choose to spend my freetime making music with friends and playing to people.
It keeps me going, helps me when I need to be creative, soothes me when the day fills me with static noise, cheers me up when I feel down, makes me smile when I'm happy.
I'm constantly doing cds and tapes for mates, borrowing from people, listening the radio, I can't walk past a music store without going in and browsing.
Obsessive? Maybe, but I find it so much more engaging than tv.
(This isn't a music vs tv thread, so relax)
I want to know why you listen to it, do you have it as background noise? Does it help you through times, remind you of experiences?
It can't just be me that has to have music constantly surrounding me can it?
Hmm Traffic eh?
I think I'll go look :)
Excellent win with excellent post.
And the moral? Music is good for you.
I've just asked for Traffic, and Charlie's Angels is good for a stupid film with barely dressed women kung-fu action.
I was thinking about the erotic witch project :D
HURRAH FOR MUSIC
Now what film to get?
I think people

That is quite scary that was what I was trying to say... I knew I liked music to an extent (old stuff) I just thought I didn't like music... that was my future... I too heard most music from mates... Radiohead from mate I talked about... I don't listen to the radio actually :D
Its like your reading my mind man (hippy accent)
These people obviously listen to very bad music. I still can't revise, but, for completely different reasons.
For music to me is an excellent way of expanding and developing the imagination. Music that transports you, twists you and places you in worlds developed only by your mind, stretching the world around you and kicking you out into blissful emptyness, leaving your thoughts utterly pathetic to the outsider, but inside, you experience what no person shall ever see. I try my best to record my feelings that I express from music, which I can then use to develop more ideas, and so on...
This apparently could be due to the drugs as well, but I'm not sure. :0)
No really, I'm just kidding. Really.
I think people that don't like music just haven't found what they like to listen to yet. It is hard for someone to find something like Radiohead by listening to the "major" radio stations like Radio one, and so on. I found my music tastes from friends, fortunatly enough, but until that time I thought I just didn't like music, questioning myself why anyone would want to listen to it anyway. Having a remotely older sister didn't help that much either, being forced to listen to Spice Girls in every room in the house...
She has moved out now, fortunatly still for my musical tastes, as I can now hear my music.
A lot of my music tastes have been discovered through film as well, and if you ever had the chance to search my mp3 library, you'll discover quite a lot of movie soundtracks.
My newest musical addition to my tastes, which help me to gather my thoughts is music composed by George Gershwin. Excellent stuff, really twisty and happy... I borrowed a cd from a friend, again. Nice to have friends with great taste in music. :0)
Great stuff.
Great post Craig!
