The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Simply, the idea of this thread is this:
Name an obscure game that didn't do very well, and instead of telling everyone about it, they try to find out information about it, and post it. Then you can see how well they did.
This is perfect for people who know unsucessful games that were very good, but are too lazy to write about them (can't think who that would be.. *ahem*), and also people who like to find out about games, and erm, pride themselves on that sort of thing.
So everyone's happy.
It makes a change from threads where nobody talks about a game because they've never heard of it.
This is turning out a lot bigger than I planned, actually...
Right then, so either post a game you want people to look up, or write some info you found out.
I'll start. First game: NetStorm

They were... Their poor sales were the reason the Looking Glass had to close their doors...
If you go to games sites IGN/Games Domain/etc... and look at their games of the year, there is bound to be a note on how good the games are, but how they failed to sell in any numbers...
As did the Systems Shock and Thief series...

The idea was you flew a rocket around and had to blow up your amtes rocket. It was 2 player only, split screen job. It was in 2D viewed from the side, so you could only move up and down and left and right
The levels were taller than they were wide. Some had magnets in to draw you to them and lose healther, some had water, loads had trees and grass banks and stuff.
It was really good fun.
How about the new BattleZone games? ... Everyone who bought the game raved about it... but commercially it flopped...
As did the Systems Shock and Thief series...

Are you joking? UFO : Enemy Unkown was a MASSIVE success...
It was originally the British name for X-COM, but since everyone in the UK called it X-COM, they dropped the British name.
It spawned a couple of sequals, even a flight simulator based on one aspect of the game...
I believe there was once talk of an animated series and a comic book?
A big fave was it was by British designer julian Gallop, one of the greatest strategy designers in the world...
Still has a big cult following
