Although many of us may not have noticed, Sony have had a slow start to their PS2 console, which hasn't been selling as hoped. And with the hype of the Gamecube rising and X-box boasting amazing specs. will the PS2 get back on steady track?. Well first we have to target where and how its slow start occured.

One could point out many major factors such as the unbelievably high price of 300-400 pounds, which is easily said to be at least 100 pounds more than the average gamer would be willing to spend. So what what did you get for all that well earned cash? Not much. One PS2 unit and one controller which hadn't changed from the PSX. High street prices on the games meant another 40 quid out of one's pocket, and with very few launch titles(with still a small amount of games at the moment!) it would be easy to feel a little disapointed. Many will also say(and I have to agree with them) that the advertisment was far from persuading you to purchase the console. No doubt Sony thought that it was clever, but sadly many obviously didn't understand it.
Nevertheless quite a few paid deposits and bought the console but a major problem came up of a shortage of units and only sold around 60 000 in its first weekend, which was easily surpassed by the GBA with 81 000 unit s sold.
Little did sony think that they could be outsold by an inferior and 'handheld' console!

The hardware giant is now losing yet more profit as the price of the PS2 had to be lowered in order for it to seem for affordable(Does 270-99 pounds sound affordable?).
Not only that but the softwarwe side is losing out because many of whom are buying it are using it mainly as a D-V-D player, in which an odd game can be played. This may be a problem for the rumoured to exist and is, Panasonic gamecube, which can play D-V-D's as well as gamecube games but may not come to europe or america.
Definetely the small selection of games was to blame. And many of them are simply conversions of PSX games with there hardly being any good original titles other than SSX snowboarding.

It may well be coming to the point where the release of 'Gran Turismo 3' will be more important to the PS2's success than ever before!
It's easy to say that Sony are losing a bit of momentum right now and need something to boost them back into form. Gran Turismo 3 may well be the key factor if the PS2 is going to start up again.
With the mistakes and stumbles Sony have made so far it's time to wait in anticipation until the Gamecube and X-box are released because it is sure to be a very close race.

Despite that, Sony don't think much of the X-box. PS2 Boss, Ken Kutaragi has said that he has no interest in the X-box and that microsoft does not understand entertainment and that many of their games aren't very impressive. He also said that he is optimistic about many things!
While on the other hand, Microsoft's senior vice president, Robbie Bach, said that 'There isn't a sense that Sony did their launch and delivered a hard blow.....'

Looking ahead to what might happen, the look of the consloles will most probably be a main factor. The Gamecube is the smallest and the size of a cube, hence the name, and will come out in various colours. The PS2 is flat and black and I've heard rumours that the X-box is/will be the size of a VCR, which may well be speculation but will definetely put people off plus the fact that it's made by Bill Gates who is not exactly the most popular guy on the street!
Nintendo's dinky special discs are better than a D-V-D in the sense that they are much harder to copy so it lowers the risk of nintendo and other companies on losing out on much profit. Which is no doubt why sega, who can make some cracking good games, are becoming very close to nintendo because their past has been horrible. Then there is the fact that the GBA can link up to the Gamecube opening up many more options.
Even though the X-box has some of the most impressive specs. all three consoles have spectacular graphics and FMV.
But pictures show that the PS2 may be surpassed by the two other consoles in terms of looks despite the huge graphic leap by Sony.

Ignoring all this one might hear people saying that the PS2 is a failure but although it hasn't amazed beyond belief yet, it's still too early to say such a thing of the creation of what has to be said, one of the biggest hardware giants.
Being realistic, Sony have had a massive head start, even if they haven't used it to their full advantage so far and you can't really see them back down so easily when the time for the other consoles arrive.
I think most of us can agree with Electronic Arts. They feel that this head start will be enough and by the end of the year they predict that Sony will have sold through some 20 million units around the world, while Gamescube and X-box will only have just begun.
EA's chief financial offier, Stan McKee said, 'I can't see how Sony will ever relinquish that advantage.'

The big question is 'Can Gameube and X-box capitalize on Sony's slow start?'
Well, only time will tell, eh?

I don't know if you all know about this but, it's nothing to do with consoles but microsoft.

Open up WORD and type =rand(200,99) and then press enter and wait a few seconds.

See what happens!

Ok Turbo get this, I've seen the PS2 for 270 pounds in the high street and special reserve themselves are selling it for this price with a free remote. Just check recent mag if you have it.

Games? Warriors of Might and Magic is on the PSX, Crazy Taxi started on the Dreamcast and so did Fur fighters,
Operation Winback is also on the N64.
Not all of those games are original you see, just conversions, if not just from Sony.
Sony are gonna need some really good third-party support and some big games.
But I admit I made a mistake on the 'cube' part.

P.S. Please enlighten me and tell me what a 'bert' exactly is.

The X-box will need an add on to play D-V-D's I think.

The PS2 shortage wasn't Sony's fault. They pulled out all the stops on the chip production but one of the factories messed up big time and screwed it.
