I was going to go for the Pipex uncapped 512Kb service at £23.44 a month, with free equipment etc.

I just wanted to check that there aren't any better deals out there...

Over to you guys :D

Yes I know its the same, but at the moment the contention rate on ADSL is not a problem. When home 1Mb was released some exchanges did start to get contended and BT fixed these so that there was enough bandwidth for the exchange. In nearly 2 years of use I have never ever noticed any contention, and I use the connection to max speed quite abit. Yet my friend who has had Telewest for say 6 months has noticed his speed drop down at peak times.

Cable companies do about 15:1 but due to it being a street level the contention rate comes in much earlier. Contention on cable wouldnt be a problem if say the street had say 50 on 1Mb and the street had a total capacity of 50Mb, but add another person and they need to upgrade the street bandwidth.

ADSL has pretty much the same problem however the contension rate is exchange specific. The 2 contension rates for btow is 50:1 (50 users to one pipe) for the P&G packages and 20:1 for network users (usually just businesses)....Therefore if everyone on the same pipe as you is downloading you will experience slower service.

Also......BT's capped service doesn't degrade your service, it bills you for the extra useage.....£12 extra for using more than 6gb!!! Take your pick, go for BT basic @ £19.99 but risk paying upto £12 for going over 6gb, therefore £31.99 OR pay for BT broadband which is uncapped (however I did read somewhere that only 1gb a day is supported) for £27.99 and never pay more than that!!

But I dont think the caps are in place yet. I know with Pipex the service doesnt really start till June time so if your on a capped service you will have uncapped for a little.

Well you might not have used 2Gb yet. 2Gb is still a reasonable amount if you only download a few 10mb files etc. Or maybe Wanadoo havent started to measure the connections yet. If your paying for a connection which is restricted to 2Gb then they will make sure you stick under this limit. What they do after the limit is broken is anybodies guess.

Well, I play Counter-Strike nearly everyday, download frequently and browse the net frequently too and after all that I haven't had any reductions in speed or any other changes.

Cable would be a good choice with the speed increase but if you live in a non-cabled area your stuck with ADSL only. The bad thing with cable is its contended at a street level. So if everyone on your street had cable broadband then if alot of them were using it at the same time then you would notice a drop in speed.
