I'm talking about non-optimised, bordered rubbish like Onimusha, and, more recently, the soon to be released Code Veronica X which also suffers from a decrease in speed and large borders.
GT3 doesn't have v.large borders but isn't as fast as it should be, as Sony haven't bothered to convert it to 60hz.

Think about it, do you really want to be playing a slowed down version of Devil May Cry with big borders?

any chance of letting us know a bit more about the usb thing youre on a bout.

I used to have a Super Famicom (instead of a SNES), and all the games were 30% quicker and 25% bigger on-screen. This was through direct comparison. It really showed with arcade conversions, such as SF2. The UK versions were, in comparison, unplayable.
All I needed was a SCART telly to play them.
If the situation doesn't get better in the future, I will consider getting my PS2 chipped, or get a USB add-on which lets you play imports (I have seen one of these on a trusted website for £20).
Would a UK PS2, converted to play imports, run the imports at full screen/speed? I think they would.
You have to play the imports to realise just how different they are. I'm hoping that GT3 will be ok and have no borders, and set the standard for future releases.
RRV really sucked. It was like looking through a letterbox at your TV. Awful.
hardly any conversions from Japan and the US are the same quality, we nearly always get the worst.
I wish someone would hurry up an create one of them region x things for game imports cus the US have far better versions.
> And I'm surprised that noone has mentioned Ridge Racer 5 >yet...
Lol ! I know, RR5 was first game I loaded into my PS2 when I bought it and I thought something was wrong with the picture, even rang Sony's helpline to ask them, recieved some mumbled reply about it being first release e.t.c ( IE person on otehr end of phone had no clue : ) )

Soz! I always get that bit muddled up! ;o)

Our TV's (PAL) are actually superior to those in the US (NTSC).
We have more display lines (525 as opposed to 425) and far better colour definition.
The only downside is the refresh rate, which as standard is slower then NTSC. However, as has been mentioned, a lot of modern TV's support NTSC/60Hz displays.
The only problem is that TV's tend to last a long, long time, and so people don't tend to change their TV that often - meaning that many people still have sets that don't support 60Hz, and hence the developers believe that it's not worth putting in games.
Exactly why these developers feel that 60Hz would be used less in PS2 games than in DC games is anyone's guess!
The next console i'm buying it'll be an American (NTSC)
to sort this they need to stick it in the options, like nobby said. DOA2 has it, why cant the rest of them. surely its not hard. if they allready have the other mode, then its just a case of choosing it at the start.
Then we are all going to have to buy new tellys. If we can prove to the games people that we could all run the first release then they might give it to us.
Yeah, it's easy to get disillusioned with sending e-mails to Sony/Capcom and never getting a reply, how much effort do you think it took them to snub you? None, and that angers me just enough to tell people to keep e-mailing, and complaining, and adding their names to the petition.
If you do nothing, nothing will be done!
