"Shogun total war"

I've found some cheats for shogun total war but they all say you have to type while in the game. I have not figured out how to do this yet.
Is there anyone willing to help an old man out?

cheating in any of the Total War games would make them redundant, being difficult is what makes RTS games so fun. The other day in Medieval Total War, my Viking army of 350 against a Rebel army of 1300.

Tough, but challanging, the result was over a hundred casualties on my side and well over 900 on the opposition, and no cheats just pure skill, and a group double hard b@stards as my army.

You have to press .then the word (with no spaces) and . at the end E.g .cheat.

And what about those Greek's eh? take out the R and they're called GEEEKS!!!!! HarHar, me funneh
