I've found some cheats for shogun total war but they all say you have to type while in the game. I have not figured out how to do this yet.

Shogun is excellent.
Do you have Warlord Edition / Mongol Invasion or just Shogun: Total War? Because some cheats will not work on WE/MI.
Anyway, you have to use them during campaign, at the overview map screen that shows you all of Japan, and you need two full stops, at the end and start, eg:
.conan.
Above cheat lets you play as the Ronin.

Shogun (was) class, until Medieval appeared. But still a terrific game.

Rome looks unbelievable.

Yep, but usually they are in debt and spread around with raising armies a problem - but that adds to the challenge and you also don't have to worry about loyalty. I had Medieval but it got one scratch and bam it's bugered. Can't wait for Rome to come out though.

The Ronin sound allot like the Vikings on the Viking Invasion expansion for Medieval. Great soldier units, some of the finest in any total war game so far, but playing as the Vikings gives you the poorest land around and you constantly have to launch hit and run attacks against mainland England in order to get enough money to pay for your armies. It's tough playing as them but perhaps not as tough fighting against them.

I got the same problem
