Sorry, I know this should be in the PS2 forum, but things seem to get more attention here.

When I first got my PS2 I used the composite lead to scart connector, plugged it into the s-video scart socket, and everything worked fine(games and DVD)

Later I read in a mag that the picture was significantly improved if you use a proper 21 pin RGB scart lead for games, but using this lead for movies won't work - eberything goes green or something. For movies the best connection is a proper S-video lead.

With this advice I went out and bought these leads. The strange thing is the RGB 21 pin scart works fine with DVDs and the picture is great, and the S-video lead gives terrible quality. Everyone tells me this is wrong and it shouldn't be doing this so I am a bit worried. Does anyone know what is happening? Please help!

I'm at a loss to explain it then, I'm afraid.

It's possible, though unlikely, that Logic3 could be telling porkies about the lead being true RGB.

The only way you'll know for sure is to get hold of a cable that you *know* is true RGB and try that. Any friends have one that you can borrow?

If you're happy with the picture through the cable for both games and DVD's, don't worry too much about it. If you're the curious type though (like me!) get hold of one of the cables from Game and put your mind at rest.

Oh, good grief! Getting my threads mixed up - sorry!

It would seem that your cable isn't a true RGB SCART lead. I assumed it would be, as the TV switches to Wide mode automatically - my SCART lead causes that, but my composite lead doesn't.

I'm assuming from the price that you have the cable with the GunCon sockets on?

Either way, none of Logic 3's cables are actually advertised as RGB SCART; if you want a 'proper' one, I'd suggest getting one from Game - their own-brand one is only £5 or £6; I use one, and I know for sure that it's true RGB. Just make sure that you ask specifically for a true RGB SCART lead, as they also do composite versions.

Sounds like either:

1. The SCART lead is not true RGB (unlikely given the info you supplied previously), or

2. The Region X cartridge is disabling RGB output, leaving you with the composite signal only.

I don't know exactly how the Region X works, but I'd imagine option 2 is what's happening.

My PS2 gives green DVD playback through SCART, so I might get one of these Region X things to try it out.

Sorry I have to pop this topic but I've been away for a while and have only just been able to test the theory. I put the RGB scart in AV1, told the PS2 I was using an RGB scart in the settings screen and the same thing happened - no green stuff. Whats wrong?

Also, I still don't know why the S-video lead gives such a rubbish picture.

Sorry about this, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ahhh... we seem to have got it...

on my Mitsubishi Tv, say I put my DC RGB SCART laed in and turn the console on... I get a kinda widescreen picture automatically. BUT the TV is only showing SCART... not RGB SCART. When I press the AV1 button it changes mode from SCART to RGB SCART and produces a FULL SCREEN PICTURE- this is the pic u want.

So, check your manual to see how to do RGB... it may only have RGB on AV1 (like mine does)... or it may need to be told it is RGB (like mine does!)

If that don't work, a problem I first had was that the scart lead wasn't in the DC fully... push it into the PS2 as far as possible.

'Why' is because the AV2 socket is not wired for RGB - what you're actually getting is the inferior composite signal, in which case you may as well use the lead that came with your PS2!
