It was an odd E3 to see Nintendo more on-the-ball than they have ever been in such a long time. Reading an article at Computerandvideogames.com about the Nintendo conference made me proud to be a Nintendo fan. And even more perculiar was Nintendo's attitude to the European market at E3. In a brief talk with that ol' dog Satoru Iwata (head of Nintendo you know) he revealed that Metroid Prime: Echoes would not see a worldwide release this year. You can guess what that means, but wait, the area that won't be recieving the game is in fact the Japanese market.

"I feel we (Nintendo) have been a bit cruel to the European market, we tried negotiating a Christmas release of Resident Evil 4 but Capcom were adament it was not possible. So we're going to make sure Metroid Prime 2 will reach European shores, even if it means delaying the Japanese release. We also feel that Animal Crossing is now worthwhile to release in the vacinity and is set for a September release."

Nice one guys.

It is planned for then in America only.

Ah but in 2002 we had Starfox Adventures, Eternal Darkness, Mario PArty 6 and even in October we had MArio Sunshine. But it was still a disaster, who knows about Paper Mario 2 and Pikmin looks set for September. Donkey Konga and Geist, as top games as they will be, just won't sell Gamecube's.

And Metroid Prime is Nintendo's biggest killer app this year. What I'm saying is this will seriously up Prime's profile, even though it will lose Metroid Prime will get a hell of a lot of recognition going head to head with what is argueably the biggest FPS release this year. Improving the profile of what I find to be a far superior series.

Killer 7 is due for 2005, Starfox 2 I don't know and Four Swords will be released soon... probably end of August September time. Again hardly killer apps. (Though Four Swords should be).

A game that's been out in America for 2 years and Metroid Prime 2 by the end of the year (thought it was planned for then anyway?).

Hardly making up for anything, maybe if they move Pikmin 2 forward and take the Cube down to £50 with a copy of Mario Kart then I might be a bit more happy.

We get GEIST before Christmas, right? That game should rock. That and Metroid, Donkey Konga and Paper Mario 2, and Pikmin 2.. plus Second Sight and StarCraft not a bad autumn/winter.

I somewhat doubt that.. it's the Xbox's biggest killer app this year.

Very true, shame we have to wait until then though.

Where do Killer 7, Starfox 2 and Zelda Four Swords fit into Europe? All 2005?

Well the original Metroid Prime did pretty well. That series is slowly growing all over the world but then see it like this, Resident Evil 4 is an AAA Christmas seller... the Japanese already have that for Christmas but we sadly do not. So we could hope Geist does the bussiness or Nintendo reduce the Christmas line-up in Japan to make sure we don't have a Christmas 2002 esq. Disaster. Oh and Halo 2 might not completley clear up too.

Of course it is those sodding Americans that get the best of both worlds.

We have a steller 2005 ahead of us though.

It was nice to see, shame Resi 4 won't be with us until 2005 though. Still, Nintendo knows that Metroid will probably be less of a big hit in Japan than some of it's other titles, so it's a small sacrifice.

lol! Making it out like he's giving something to Europe by delaying Metroid in Japan. It's not just the fact that FPSs aren't really that popular in the country, and Metroid isn't half as popular over there as it is in the US and EU.

Good news that Animal Crossing is finally getting released tho!

I've had a NES, SNES, PS1 (got one for Christmnas, and, seeing as the 64 wasn't out until March, my Mother thought 'sod that'. My Mother was quite teh industry analyst then, in her own little way. She told me that, if Nintendo had released teh 64 by Christmas, I'd have got one, and so would most other people...), GC, PS2(promptly sold for...) XBOX.

Oh and I got my N64 just after the GC...

Things are indeed looking up.

I've been a Ninty since the NES when I was 5 (got it a few years after initial release)... why stop now? ;)
