Today was Sports Day at my school, and I played a rather large part.

I was in the 100m final and the 4x100m relay final. I won the 100m last year, and also got into the District Sports 100m Final. I was the favourite.

But next to me was the school's best 200m, along with an unproven sprinter-both of whom ran faster than me in the heat.

Just before the race, the 200m runner (supposedly the fastest in the year, but he had hardly ever ran 100m) was DQ'd by my teacher for swearing.

This left me and this unproven runner. We ran, and he beat me by 3 tenths of a second.

His time was 11.86-a new year 9 record.

My time was 12.16-my new personal best by 7 tenths of a second!

Should I be happy?? Should I be disappointed??

Next was the relay. We were the favourites by far, as out relay team consisted of the District Sports 100m and 200m runners.

Unfortunately the 200m runners had to drop out (one of them the guy who was DQ'd.) So we used a 400m runner and an 800m runner instead.

I went on the 4th leg. We were doing quite well up until the change-over to me. The person who passed it to me had never done relay, and he told me to go way too early. I had to stop before we were DQ'd.

I got the baton in 3rd place. At first I was resigned to coming 3rd, but then I began to catch them. By the end of the race, I was ahead of both of them. We'd won.

Unfortunately, I think we should have been DQ'd, as I ran over the line when we mucked up the change-over. I feel a little guilty, and it sort of takes away the happiness.

Should I be happy?? Should I be disappointed??

Now you may be wondering-what does this have to with gaming??

Well, I was thinking about how I felt when I completed Metal Gear Solid-my favourite game ever.

I'd been playing it non-stop for a few days, and had finally completed it. I was happy to have finished the game, but also sad that there was no more to come. It wasn't the same when I played it again.

So, should I be happy to have finished the game?? Or should I be disappointed that there was no more to come until MGS2??

Should I be happy?? Should I be disappointed??

Thanks for reading, Ant.

I felt this way when I finished Zelda: OoT. I spent every available hour on it, but when i finished it, I was really upset.

Finally!! Someone who understands the topic!!

I was comparing the two things. My Sports Day, and finishing a game.

I know what you mean, it's the same with me and books. If it's good, i'm glad i finsihed it, because you find out what happens, but you're disappointed because theres no more.

It's a difficult question i suppose, one that plagues games that some with no multiplayer. For games like MarioKart, Goldeneye etc, you still can play, be the characters, even when the single player is finsihed by doing the multiplayer with your mates.

Humm. Everyone's missed the point. Although, Delta has the gist of it a little...

Read the ending. I'm asking something.

You should be happy.... Because you can run... some people can't

Some people don't even have enough food to last them a day. You've got free education, a nice christian family, loads of friends at school and on the net.

You have a playstation 2... some people haven't even had the education to be able to spell it!

With the money it cost your parents to buy you a PS2 you could have fed a whole village fo people in Ethiopia for about 2 years...

There will always be someone better than you... and me and him and her and Sniper. Records aren't everything...

You should be happy that your alive and fit and well....

I'm not taking a shot at you Ant, but we should all look at the bigger picture... you may say...

"I live on benefit in a house" But some people don't have half that! or even 100th of it...

Make the most of life by all means, bot NO-ONE, and I mean no-one should be disappointed becuase of a little incident!

It's a bit like taht half full or half empty thing - do you look at a glass of water as half full, or half empty? All about negatives and the like.

There is a gaming point to it-if you read the end close enough.
