Probably old news to you lot (only posted by SR yesterday) - this is both good and bad news. I will be getting both machines, but I wasn't planning on them being released at the same time! That means there will be less of my cash to go on games for both machines.
In the back of my mind I'm hoping one of the machines turns out to be not all that - but the reality is that I want both of these to succeed as they both have their strengths.
What do you think on the launch situation? Were/Are you still planning to get both?
Knowing me and my spending habits, I'll probably still buy both regardless of the huge dent to be left in my wallet :D
The GBA SP will be a cheap, very cheap, little gadget when the PSP and DS debut so cheap that it'll sell in a league of its own.
People will see the classy looking, 2D fun titles and grab the console as quickly as possible.
I will put money on the fact that the GBA SP will still be in the handheld market which can only traditionally support 2 systems.
You see the GBA SP will not be knocked off its perch for years, the PSP will be an expensive gadget and will face off against the DS and the N-GAGE 2.... this 3 way battle may slow GBA SP sales but not stop them.
If Sony were hoping to just come along and defeat the Gameboy then they are wrong. By the time the DS/PSP (N-Gage doesn't stand a chance) war is settled and (if the PSP wins) the PSP can finally turn its attention to attack the formidable GBA SP all of a sudden the GBA next will appear.
The DS is a major thorn in Sony's plan.
The GBA SP won the lastwar, because it only had imaginary friends to fight against!
The Gameboy did quite well, taking out the Sega Game Gear and the Atari Lynx. The Gameboy colour also took out the SNK handheld and the WonderSwan.
The GBA? Nobody dared! :-D
You know the real winner of this war is the GBA SP.
Whoever made that decision is a stupid-head.
Everyone will suffer.
And by the way, Gran Turismo 4 isn't even out yet, so how could it be 7 years old when it's released for the PSP... hmmmm....
Everyone says "oh imagine 16 player Gran Turismo on the train" (never mind how ridiculous that is).
Now what will they say? "Imagine! 1 player re-release of 7 year old playstation games on the train!"?
"Hurrey! tiny selection of movies that can only be played once on the train!"?
I doubt it.
I heard that they were both wireless...
> Whoever signs Rare to make wireless Perfect Dark wins it.
That'll be only Nintendo then, as the PSP scrapped the wirelesss technology for their supposed "movie playback"
Other than that the scales are even.
Nintendo has the better price (a BIG difference) and the Gameboy association (and back catalogue).
Sony have the reputation of the Playstation brands, although I think a lot of people remember that the PS2 wasn't so great when it first came out and took about a year to get going...
It's all down to the software and a race to Rareware! :-)
Saying that, I heard it was going to be £100+ originally, but near 100. Now I'm hearing that it's gonna be a bit more.. No where near £250+ though for PSP. Har har. It boasts "Movie Playback".. although only about 5 movies will ever be released onto its little discs probably.
