Sony has announced the first shipment of PlayStation2 hard drives has sold out at its online store.

The units will be delivered to Japanese consumers from July 19. A new shipment is due to reach the land of the rising sun on July 27.

The hard drive, which will be packaged with a broadband adapter and a 56k modem will cost around £108 and will be available as either a standalone unit or as an internal plug-in device, depending on which model PlayStation2 the consumer owns.

The unit is not expected to be available for the European market until early 2002.

Maybe these work on the UK console you never know but i've said it before and i'll say it again. I should have bought an American PS2.

The only thing I thought of, and maybe I'm wrong because im no way infallible, but even if the HD did work on a UK console what good would it be ? I wouldn't think any games in the Uk will support it until it has an official release, of course if someone can play imports it would be god I guess.

I thought the HDD and the Modem were seperate units?

(according to PSM2 at E3, with the Sony guy showing you the hardware...)

They are indeed, but they're apparently being packaged together.

That cheap? For both?

The latest OPS2 mag has the Network Adapter at a TBC price of £40 and the HDD also at a TBC price of £200

Japan gets them for £108 and we get them for £240. I know things are cheaper over there but not that much!

Both of them are definitely coming to the UK.

Remember the HD price is 'TBC' - don't take it as gospel. Personally, I think £200 is too high, and I doubt I'd get one at that price.
