The champions league has become a have for failing clubs to receive inflated incomes for below par results.
I admit that winning the UEFA cup is impressive, but the reason that Liverpool shouldn't be in the champions league is because Liverpool only play well in big games. They want to prove that they are better than teams such as Arsenal and Man Utd, so they beat us.
So What?
To win the league takes consistently high quality football over 38 matches, not just the 4 against Arsenal and Man Utd. How can Liverpool have a claim to be the best team in Europe whenever they cannot provide the consistency over the course of a season. They are a good cup team, and they have proven that, but to claim to be the best team in Europe, or even a major force is very disputable.
I am an Everton Fan.
I don't understand that on, maybe someone can cast some light on the subject, but hopefully Rangers and Celtic can represent Scotland well, next season.

I totally agree.
Why should Liverpool be in the Champions League?? Because they DESERVE to be.
Beating teams such as Barcelone, Roma, Man U and Arsenal-surely that deserves a Champions League place, as well as being treble cup winners!!
Why should Liverpool have the right to play in the champions league whenever they cant even finish 2nd in the country, yet in the FIFA rankings they are the best club of the season.

however it just funds ailing teams like Real

Real madrid struggle to win their league? they ran away with the league this season.
And, as far as I know, the main reason that we have been given an extra Champions League was we did well in the last one, I mean, all three of our teams got past the second stage, into the quarter finals, with one of them getting into the semis.
Our teams are good enough for the Champions League, otherwise they wouldn't get there in the first place. Our league is one of the toughest in the world, so getting in the top 5 is a challenge.
And Fitz, you said,"The champions league has become a have for failing clubs to receive inflated incomes for below par results". Coming second or third in the Premier League is not a failure, really is it. If anything, being relegated is a failure.
With this extra place, there is more chance of one of our teams winning, and this can boost England's chances for hosting the World Cup, which I am sure that everyone wants to happen.
