As a Ninty I don't often say overly nice things about the competition. I'm adult enough to admit that the Playstation and Playstation 2 have some classy games that I'd love to be able to play, and I frown upon those that say stupid things like "Fony Greystation Poo is gay!" But I don't often go out of my way to serve helpings of praise upon them.
Until now.
Sony are smart.
Just look at the timing of the announcement of the Playstation 2. Just right to plant seeds of doubt into the minds of some of those that may have otherwise bought a Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast certainly suffered from this announcement. People were made to think which they'd prefer, a console from the makers of the Saturn, a bit of a flop, or the makers of the Playstation, an immense success?
Sony saw what Nintendo's greatest success was of last year. Pokemon. So what do Sony do about this? They made sure that a Digimon (Pokemon's big rival with the kids) game was coming out for the Playstation. You wanna collect monsters? Pokemon's not your only opportunity, buy Digimon on the Playstation!
With the Playstation 2 Sony are playing it very cleverly. at release they made sure that there would be titles around that people would want to play, because they loved the earlier version, like Tekken, or Ridge Racer. They made it quite apparent that other great franchises would be released too, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy.
At E3 this year when all of the focus was firmly of Nintendo and Microsoft, as they had all of the new consoles, what did Sony do? They made a surprise announcement that the Playstation 2 would be online much earlier than expected!
The release of one game that is going to be huge in Japan, Final Fantasy 10 was initially scheduled for release the weekend before the Japanese GAMECUBE launch. Again this will make so many people want a PS2, just at the time that Nintendo want the consumer to be looking at them.
You think that the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 2 being released in November in America is really anything to do with it being Thanksgiving over there? Of course it does have something to do with it, but more importantly both the GAMECUBE and the Xbox are being released in the USA in November!
With tactics like these it's no wonder that Sony have been so successful so far. The 'console wars' are being fought on more than what games are available. Nintendo are going to have to wise up to this, else they'll soon realise that the 'Nintendo are not our competitors' line was quite untrue, and it was just there to lure them into a false sense of security!

Gamecube looks fantastic with a well designed controller and small "discs" which means Nintendo owners can actually buy demos and try before they buy.This is a huge step for nintendo since every console before has used cartridges.
The games look like a laugh and i think it's one great console.I'll be picking one of these up when the games I'm after appear.
Nintendo are bringing out the same sort of games as the N64 but i still think that the GC will see alot of better style games than the 64 had. Although the 64 had some good games i think it did lack a bit in fighting and driving games, The N64 seemed to be better than anything else at building 3D enviroments like in Mario and Zelda,
Xbox-Microsoft don't talk about anything else except the specs,The console itself i think looks pretty awfull and i think should come with a health warning in case you attempt to lift the thing. Nothing on the xbox list of games seems to interest me at all but each to their own i suppose.
The xbox forum here seems to be the least popular and the only people who i think are even considering an xbox are PC owners which probably just see it as a non upgradable PC so why buy it?
The PS2 is looking very fine indeed,Silent Hill 2 was shown on last night's cybernet and thats the kind of stuff we expect on the Sony Machines and with the PS2's high quality hardware these games are looking fantastic.
The good games are finally rolling in with Gran Turismo 3 coming later this month and the long awaited titles just around the corner.
With the hard drive,lower price and awsome game titles i think this wll be some heavy competition for Nintendo and Microsoft.
Anyway for now Sony have my vote with excellent PS2 titles, Old and New PSone games still being released and a pretty nice DVD player this will keep me happy for years to come.
