It's not like I've though about it, and intentionally not bought one for that long, but it's just gone that way. I never had money when the 'big' titles came out, and had a lot of XBOX back-catalogue to catch up on since December.
So, Mario Golf should be winging its way to me soon, in time for me to sample its Nintendo goodness by the weekend, hopefully. And, if my reviewing pays off, I could be getting back into the 'cube as easily as I got out of it.
I love you, Nintendo
Skies of Arcadia anyone?
I can't believe people still judge a console by sales, I thought everyone would have learned from the PS2 that sales don't make a decent console.
It's been a poor year for games so far overall.
Why Mario Golf vs Full Spectrum Warrior?
Personally, I thouht Ninja Gaiden was okay - but I wont be getting it myself and I don't know anything about Full Spectrum Warrior yet. I know that my opinion doesn't reflect overall sales, but having all three consoles, I'd say the best releases I've played this year have been on GameCube so far.
What does amuse me though is that in Japan, four Famicom Mini games are in the top 20 sold games for all formats in the last week, whereas there isn't a single Xbox game.

How do you work that out?
I'd be willing to bet that Pokemon Colosseum sold a shed load more copies than Ninja Gaiden, and both Mario Golf and Full Spectrum Warrior aren't out here yet (Mario Golf comes out today though), so you can hardly say that Microsoft has had the biggest hitters of the two consoles so far this year.
Project Gotham 2 is a title as big as Halo, as is Ninja Gaiden and as was Rainbow Six 3 on LIVE, you only have to look at the number of people who actually play it on LIVE to see that.
I doubt that Dringo has even played PGR2 or Ninja Gaiden or even Rainbow Six 3 on LIVE. I picked up The Chronicles of Riddick a couple of days a go which is on the epic scale of Halo in terms of how well the game pulls off what it set out to do; the only difference being that Riddick actually innovates the FPS genre with some truly excellent ideas but it is till an exclusive title way up there with Halo.
As far as I can see Microsoft have the strongest line-up from here on in, this is excluding games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2 as there is no way I am playing a dumbed down port for either of the two, the only way either can truly be experienced is on a very high end PC which is where I will be getting them.
Microsoft HAS HAD the biggest hitters THIS YEAR
Which, game per game, is probably true.
Colloseum vs Gaiden
Mario Golf vs Full Spectrum Warrior
etc.
Microsoft have only produced two mega exclusives which is surprising.
X-box does have Doom 3, Halo 2, Half Life 2 and KOTOR 2 all in the works so it looks like things are improving drastically... but so far the X-box has not produced many killer apps at all.
Nintendo meanwhile have Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime 2 as their killer apps in the works. They'll try telling is Pikmin 2 is amongst them but it doesn't have the right mass market appeal.
