Hinorashi Yamaushi the leader of Nintendo he was supposed to retire a while back but this old guy continues to plague Nintendo. Squaresoft left, there is few 3rd party developers and the Gamecube was nearly axed thanks mainly to this man!

Yet why did he feel he could stop the Gamecube? Well he had a reason he thinks home consoles is only the first step, he believes it is the handhelds that are the future... and in part I agree.

Handhelds can be as powerful as it's older counter part, the Gamegear was indeed a mini Megadrive and if it had longer battery life would of succeeded. Now if lets say in 5 years time we are playing on a 128 bit handheld why would we want a home console?

Nintendo started on the mini systems with game and watch and if Nintendo's head honcho is right will finish on a mini system as well! Eventually midi discs would be used instead of carts and games this big with a super powered handheld would be a match made in heaven but what is the disadvantage of this idea?

The screen, a handheld screen would be too small and to be honest we all prefer bigger ones. Now this is easy to sort out link it into the TV and play it like on the big screen! Now lets think this through a handheld which is as powerful as a home console, can play it any where and on a TV and has large game storage in the form of small discs much like Gamecubes. This will be the future and indeed a bright one!

Playstation fans may object especially as Nintendo rule the handheld side of the market at the moment but put aside the petty differences and think about it. Maybe Hinorashi is right maybe we will no longer need these bulky machines and we can play games any where any time!

Of course it is a long way off a 128 bit handheld is something of fantasy at the moment but 5 years ago would you of thought you would be playing on a 32-bit Gameboy? Lets see how things will develop.

Handhelds wont catch up. I mean the GBA is 32-bit, and that is 5 years behind, now 128 is out it will take 10 years before it reaches that (or maybe 5, depends...)

And i don't think handhelds SHOULD be more powerful, i mean a console can do much more because it doesn't have to worry about size (Gamecube...). But one day will see a 64/128 bit handheld, but at the moment, the GBA will do just fine.

True but eventually power would be too much Nintendo didn't move to 256 mbit as it has too much power soon we may make a jump to say 256 mbit and therefore there will be no need for another power boost giving handheld consoles th chance to catch up.

Remember that however powerful portables will get, consoles and bigger machines will always be even more powerful, as inventors need to first develop the enhancement before sizing it down.

Yes but like those many little devices plugging a handheld into a TV isn't much trouble pretty easy in fact i'm betting that'll happen on the GC with the GBA and soon as i said we can have hand helds as powerful as home consoles!
