I am getting fed up with getting these silly virus's and I would like to get the best virus protecter there is out there. So, what one would you recommend to me?

Thanks.

FM, the reason Win2K is so network orientated is because it's effectively Windows NT5.

But then i guess you already knew that.....

Total agreement with both of you, Win2K IS more network orientated, but it's also more stable then ME. However, SOME features are a nightmare, but overall Win2k is the OS for me, until XP, which I will be getting as the beta tests have shown that it's ok.

Best OS of all time was DOS 6.0 with MSBASIC included. WOW!

Agh...win2k is blatently better than either of those. I tried WinME as a dual boot with Win2k on one box, and the stability was abysmal, and memory management. 2k is still blatently the best (from the windows family) available.

If I want to be treated like a clueless 6 year old, I'll be sure to get XP, but I could do without constantly updating M$ on my system spec, and I'm capable of using a computer without little labels like "Throw this file away" (delete) and "Other Computers" (network).

Windows 2000? But isn't that more suited for networks, and not standalone computers? Shouldn't you get Windows Me instead/ Or better still, wait for Windows XP.

I've got PC-cillin which comes as standard with Windows 2000. As a virus checker it's fantastic, the only problem is that after it's checked each virus it then says "Hey! I recognise you!! Long time no see! Come on in!!"

Bloody Microsoft....

The best virus checker is InnoculateIT, which is free but unfortunately no longer widely available. Ha! And the best firewall program is ZoneAlarm, which is also free and this time widely avalable. I've mentioned these two because I use them both. They're really good, too - when Spider "accidentally" sent me that msn virus, the virus prog immediately identified it as a virus and deleted it.

If you're on MSN I can send you a little firewall program for nothing. Just get in touch with me and I'll send you the 'yourcompisdead.exe' file.

Only 1kb, no problem at all...

2) 30 day trial version is free

2) crack to overcome time limitation is free

Put 2 and 2 together, and you get 4

4) Norton Antovirus can be obtained for free
