Would stick it in the PC section but I can't be bothered.

Interested in Far Cry but am aware of the system hog that it is.
Can a tech-type person gissan estimate of what it'd play like on my system of:
2.40ghz, 512mb Ram & Geoforce Ti4200

Is it even worth buying as I'm loathe to run it on minium detail levels etc? And if it ain't, could anybody advise on a graphics card that I should look to?
I'm not that much of a gamer to justify shelling out £300+ for a bloody card to play games on so I'm wary of getting into that.

That's probably the best bet.

A 9800 Pro will offer around 50% (minimum) extra performance over your old card. The extra RAM will also make things a touch more responsive as well.

The new cards from Nvidia and ATI are better still, but they cost at least £300, won't be supported fully by games for a while yet because of the new features, and unlike the extra RAM, simply won't make any difference in things other than games.

In saying that, if you really love your PC games and don't mind paying in blood for it, the new cards are worth it.

The XT offers an increase however the XT Platinum is a completely different ball game. Very very powerful card.

Tis up to you about the XT, it will only go on EBay anyway.

I've been reading around and general consensus is the XT gives a tiny performance increase for almost double the cost of the 800Pro and isn't really worth it?

Not sure but personally I'm going with the 9800 Pro that I can pick up in an hour from SR with extra ram.

Well basically I am a perfectionist with PC gaming when it comes to hardware. I bought the card in January for £375 and it was the best card available on any platform up until a few week back when the X800 Pro was released to the public, retailing at around £300 - £350 although I have seen higher. The card is the mutts nuts, if you check Toms Hardware (through google) you will see some bench tests for it.

I am selling to buy an X800 XT Platinum which will retail for around £450 - £500, tis the only reason I am selling.

Why are you selling yours? Is the other one much better?
I'm a complete novice when it comes to tech stuff on PCs.
Alls I know is I want to play Far Cry with lots of detail please and I don't think my card can do it.

Do I need to look at a 256mb card?

Sleep is for the weak. Food is for the weak. Weakness is for the weak.

I'm just glad I'm not getting no summer job of any sort, and I'm going to college, as I really, really don't want to work. Waste as much time as possible in education, and sponge off parents. My philosphy.

No no no, can't stand working, I am alright to pay it off next month and still have enough for a fair few other stuff. Over time is for the weak.

Heh, in major bad books with the folks. Spent £450 in DVD Box Sets in the last few days and maxed the Gold Card out with the outstanding balance. Of course I will pay for it but that's coming out of next months wages, I still owe on my TV.
