But now ? Well MGS 2 is going to be available for X Box as Metal Gear Solid 2X, FFXI will also be on X Box and Gamecube, and X box will utilise a scart cable for DVD playback, minus the green screen of course. Namco are rumoured, on Gamespot.com , to be heading to Microsoft's console and it seems clear that the PS2 is losing exclusive developers. When PS2 launched with around 10 games ( I might be wrong on that figure ) 2 of those were Namco titles exclusive to the PS2. RR5 may not have been brilliant to some but it certainly contributed to selling some consoles in the early days. More importantly, whilst PS2 is losing exclusive developers, Sony ( SCEE in our case ) do not seem to be making much effort on the marketing side of things. Where are the tv adverts e.t.c ? Xmas is not far and other consoles launching in the USA and Japan are going to be grabbing headlines. Another thing is that the X Box is getting many games like Air Force : Delta Storm which are 100% exclusive to the format, another major loss is that the Buffy game is X Box only :( Many may laugh at this fact, I mean the game wil probably be bad, but Buffy is the bestselling VHS and DVD series in the UK, Sky pays a substantial sum to air it, and in America its even more popular.
So, in conclusion, I feel that the PS2 is still a great console, but the recent lack of games ( the fact it is summer is no excuse, and GT3 is just one game ) and the growing details of developers leaving it plus less games becoming exclusive to the PS2 make me feel Sony have betrayed us all slightly.
What does everyone else think ? ( Apart from "this is a stupid topic and its only a newbie" )
There are plenty of good games coming to PS2, many of which either will be exclusives or will appear long before other formats.
Sony aren't advertising PS2 at the moment because, quite simply, they don't have to. Over 10 million units in the first year have been sold (an industry record) on the basis of the name only, and one very strange advert.
Rest assured that when it's time for the X-Box and CameCube launch, the PS2's price will plummet, and the advertising will begin with a vengeance.
I also read recently (though admittedly in a PS2 magazine, and even then only in a 'rumours' section) that many in the industry aren't giving X-Box much of a chance. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home tonight I'll find the article and post it here.

erm..without me being too rude, Microsoft are responsible for X Box :) Maybe we need more companies in the industry anyway because at least it would hopefully diversify the types of games available. Ok so the PC is plagued by hundreds of publishers making games, some of highly dubious quality. But for every 20+ deer hunters there's a Rogue Spear ( a personal fave of mine, what I mean is a game that someone loves ).

Admittedly few people have played the games but I didn't even care about Ps2 until about March this year and because I didn't play or read about PS2 games I viewed games like Timesplitters, DOA2, GT3 and other very fine titles as questionnable. What I have seen of X Box games is that they are visually on par with PS2 in most cases but the proof comes with the playing !
LOL I must admit my faith in Sony has been partly restored since I played Red Faction and Ring Of Red, and found they've got exclusive licence to the Tomb Raider film license ( yes v.sad I know ) If GT3 misses its release date again however....GRR :)
Also, if the Ex-Box is a big success we may see loads of other companies like Micro$oft cashing in on the industry and this is not what we need.
Microsoft may believe they have the power with the X-Box (which will soon be known as Ex-Box) but the games....questionnable.

From what I've heard the Namco/Micorsoft deal isn't for back catalogue titles, its for new releases so it could be us that ends up waiting.... :(
I don't want to do Sony down it's just loads of little news stories all seem to be coming together for the run up to xmas, and with X Box and Gamecube slowly gaining popularity its quite worrying that Sony seem to think the 'race' ( for want of a better term, see the SR news forum feature about the Sony guy saying X box is finished ) is won when it hasn't even started yet !
