Since the N64 was released, ther have been complaints after complaints about there being to many kiddy games being released for it. Why is there so many complaints, I don't know, maybe it is because there is a lot of older gamers out there, But I'm an older gamer, and I don't see what is wrong.
these so called Kiddy games are actually pretty entertaining, and if you think about it, they are very popular. How many young gamers are out there?? well the answer to this question is loads, and these so called young gamers are who Nintendo focus there sales on.
They don't actually just focus on young gamers, they do focus on the older generation, but it isn't that obvious to me or you. Not so long ago a game known as Conkers bad fur day was released, and this is a great title. It has Character designs that appeal to the kiddies, but it has content for the older gamer. It is packed full of of toilet humour (the great mighty poo for example :-D) With out the explicit content this copuld be classed as a child's game, but wouldn't you still enjoy it??? I know I would.
With the release of the Gamecube coming closer everyday, we can expect som great games, whether they are aime at young or old, they are expected to be big. At the moment Nintendo have put alot of hype into this console, boasting about it's power and it's games. There have been many games under construction, and I can tell you there are all aimed at different aged gamers. Back to the point, is this the end of kiddis games and the title, N64 the "kiddies console" well we will just have towait and see.

I'm quite content to play the likes of Banjo Tooie, Donkey Kong64 and Super Mario64 on my N64 because they're very enjoyable games. Yes they may be full of colour, and have plinky plonky happy tunes, but I just so happen to like this. The games are challenging (and before Goatboy says it, except Lylat Wars) and they're fun. I'm not saying that games on other consoles are not challenging and fun, that would be stupid. My duaghters quite like to watch me play this type of game, but if I put on something like TWINE, then they lose interest. If they lose interst, I have to keep them amused in some other manner, so playing the games that are typical to a Nintendo console makes me happy, and it makes the kids happy.
Now if you don't like the cutesy games like this, then there are some other options on the N64. Resident Evil 2 if avoiding zombies is your thing. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark or Turok if first person shooters are what you like.
There was a definite lack of more mature titles on the N64 though, but that said, there was a lack of titles in general for the N64!
The GAMECUBE, like the N64, the SNES and the NES is also a family console. There will be games you can play with the kids, and multiplayer games you can all enjoy together. Not much beats the Mario Party series for multiplayer laughs. With the GAMECUBE Nintendo have realised the importance of more mature titles, and as a result have enlisted Silicon Knights as a second party developer. Games like Eternal Darkess and Too Human could show that the GAMECUBE will be a much more viable platform for the more mature game, whilst still having the range of titles that will appeal tothe younger gamers.
Nintendo have also worked hard to rebuild bridges to the third party developers. The lack of support that the N64 had is not something we will see again during the GAMECUBEs lifetime as Nintendo have produced some very developer friendly tools for working on the GAMECUBE, and have lowered the costs of licenses to produce games for Nintendo.
Capcom are bringing a number of games to the GAMECUBE, like Resident Evil 0 and BioHazard. Namco will bring some of it's beat 'em-ups such as Tekken, and Soul Calibur.
Things will be very different from the days of the N64, but Nintendo will NEVER stop making games that appeal to children. There is no way they shoulddo either. I remember the magic of Nintendo when I was a youngster, and I want my children, and countless other children the world over to experience the magic too.
Let's not alienate them by getting rid of the 'kiddy' games. I want to rescue Peach with Mario, I want to be able to explore worlds with Link in Zelda, I want to be able to race with Donkey Kong, I want to be able to play mini games with Wario, I want to fight with Kirby and Pikachu! If that makes me a kid then fine, hand me a joypad, I'm the biggest kid of all.
